GeForce FX5200 and GeForce FX5500 stalling, update BIOS? - 2008/02/22 03:55 I have an old Intel P3 and Celeron with GeForce 2 MX400 cards. I tried to upgrade them to a PNY GeForce FX5500 128MB and EVGA e-GeForce FX5200 128MB respectively and they had this problem in many different games where the game would stall every minute or so for about 5-20 seconds then resume and function perfectly normal until another stall. I've narrowed this down to being just the cards... I've tried everything including about five different NVIDIA drivers and the only thing that seems to fix it is installing the older slower cards and then the games work perfectly fine.

I tried the cards in my Intel P4 3.0GHz system and they stalled in the same games, one of the games is Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 which is an old game. My last resort before throwing out the cards was to upgrade the BIOS, but I can't find an EVGA e-GeForce FX5200 BIOS on the site. Can I use any GeForce FX5200 BIOS from another company, and if so, will it support the TV output? Also what would be the latest and best one to use for this card?

Re:GeForce FX5200 and GeForce FX5500 stalling, update BIOS? - 2008/02/22 20:44 Well, that is way too long ago to really know how to solve that... I think we saw that sometimes with such cards but I can't recall exactly what the solution was and not sure it is exactly the same problem as you are having. Whnat I would try is overclocking the cards a bit and see if that makes a difference... And about the TV out that is not always working by using BIOS's from other vendors as that was one of the main items why we started our archive of BIOS's.
