Possible overclock rates for ASUS GeForce FX5900 (V9950)? - 2008/02/17 19:37 Hi, what are the possible overclock rates of an ASUS GeForce FX5900 Ultra (V9950)? I upgraded it to a GeForce FX5950 Ultra using a given official BIOS Rev.02. The rates are now 475MHz for 3D and memory at 950MHz effective. I want to know if someone has some information and/or results how much you can overclock it without needing to buy more coolers and fans.

System Configuration...
- Intel Pentium 4 3GHz Processor
- Intel D875PBZLK Desktop Board
- Unknown 2GB of DDR Memory
- ASUS GeForce FX5900 Ultra Card

Should I use the BFG Rev.02 (510MHz)? Or should I use the NVIDIA GeForce FX5950 Ultra BIOS Rev.03 and change the clock speeds and timing to the one of the BFG BIOS? Thanks in advance...

And we can still say the same thing the rates we can't really give as every card has had different results, so really what you need to do is via software now overclock the card and see how far you can get it... So use a program like RivaTuner, PowerStrip or ATITool to see how far you can overclock the card without experiencing artifacts. If you know that you can just adapt the BIOS to those higher clock speeds. Changing to other BIOS won't make much difference really...

Does PowerStrip has a test feature for the settings? I mean I read something about such a feature when using SmartDoctor from ASUS, but I have to install their graphics card driver first. Or should I install the SmartDoctor and the ASUS driver? Does it work without having the ASUS BIOS in the graphics card? Thanks in advance...

Re:Possible overclock rates for ASUS GeForce FX5900 (V9950)? - 2008/02/18 19:14 That is up to you if you want to use that tool from ASUS, personally I use ATITool and PowerStrip and RivaTuner, as those tools are the best for overclocking a graphics card. And that is it, what SmartDoctor does I don't really know but it is not such a great tool any way. So you do as you want but I would go for a tool that works on any graphics card as those are always better.

I am going to download PowerStrip and RivaTuner, but I'll do it at weekend, as my computer is at another city, using my laptop at the moment. By the way, is it normal that my temperature went down from about 50°C for the GeForce FX5900 Ultra to about 42°C for the GeForce FX5950 Ultra when flashing the BIOS? Thanks.

And yes it is normal that the temp goes down when flashing the GeForce FX5950 Ultra BIOS as it runs the fan a bit quicker and has some better temp tweaking in the BIOS. And that is also why a lot of users in the past flashed to the GeForce FX5950 Ultra version.

I mean will I notice a different between these two BIOS's in PowerStrip? Hopefully I get it to 500MHz, but I will see it. I am happy that I found this wonderful site and such a helpful person like you.

Re:Possible overclock rates for ASUS GeForce FX5900 (V9950)? - 2008/02/18 22:41 Mmm, you could try but the version will never make that much of a difference in performance, and if your card works fine with the Rev.02 then I would stick to it and try that first. It is not so that newer BIOS's are always better... So try and see first. And good luck with the overclocking.

It's from a German site and list several overclocking results before an after the GeForce FX5950 Ultra flash... That is the site, where I got the BIOS from I used to flash my GeForce FX5900 Ultra.

Secondly I don't see what it really has to do with it as every card is different and you have already flashed it so you just now have to try and see hwo far you can overclock it.
