Okay Quad SLI driver finally available for Windows Vista? - 2008/02/12 20:02 New drivers came out while I was gone... Hi everyone, I'm back in Alberta for a couple of months to work. Huh, I don't really know how to feel here, been a Vista beta tester since it was first presented two years ago, have had Quad SLI water cooled configuration as long as that and now finally as of December 2007 we have graphics drivers to put them together.

Chocked is a good word, but this was wrong these drivers should have been out a long long time ago. I guess it wouldn't look very good for a new operating system and new cards coming soon of the GX2 flavor and having no drivers. I see red NVIDIA. I could switch back again if red ever gets it together. Sorry for a bit of rant there. But they are now here for all to enjoy!

Re:Okay Quad SLI driver finally available for Windows Vista? - 2008/02/13 22:23 Hehe, indeed NVIDIA had not been able to deliver a good Quad SLI for ages now for Windows Vista so it is good to see that it is now ready. At least you can finally try it and enjoy some Quad SLI action on your Vista machines. Well at least for those who didn't upgrade their dual GeForce 7950 GX2 systems yet with some better and fatser GeForce 8800 parts. But yes the GeForce 9800 GX2 is approaching, so better be ready again for Quad SLI, since now the 3-Way SLI is again gone which was just possible with the GeFoirce 8800 GTX and up.

Re:Okay Quad SLI driver finally available for Windows Vista? - 2008/02/14 01:58 Actually I did buy a BFG GeForce 8800 GTX, a BFG GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB and a pair of EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB for my grand daughters rig, but haven't upgraded my main rig as of yet because of the lack of these drivers and I think I stated my next big upgrade will be the new GX2 which I expected some time ago but NVIDIA seems to be having too much fun and making too much cash on the mainsteam parts. I think this will be a full GX2 Quad SLI build once again.

Before I went to Newfoundland I swapped memory and went through about seven EVGA nForce 680i mainboard to get my Core 2 Quad QX6850 running, the Core 2 Extreme X6800 only work in the first board on release and hasn't worked since. Memory express said my original board was hooped. When I installed the quad core and didn't work they tried the other boards untill they got one that worked. Funny thing. I still haven't found a board for my Core 2 Extreme X6800 so nForce 780i's coming right up...

Re:Okay Quad SLI driver finally available for Windows Vista? - 2008/02/14 10:37 Well I think you might had the rumors wrong, NVIDIA never mentioned it it come so soon as you somehow expected, that was just the rumors about that it would come, some new GX2 version but doing it that with a G80 would just kill the idea due to too much heat and power requirements. So they had to wait for the G92 and of course the moment is just right to release it in the upcoming month. And I am waiting for the GeForce 9800 GX2 as well, as it should be very interesting this second GX2 attempt.

Re:Okay Quad SLI driver finally available for Windows Vista? - 2008/02/14 19:52 Yes, rumors are just that, rumors I guess I may not be the only one and I did figure that a die shrink or new revision of the chip to make it suitable for a notebook would be required. I just would have liked to have had it sooner. But yes NVIDIA's timing is pretty bang on for me also as well as the market. I imagine it is going to need some serious cash to fit into a new pair of GX2's, the Armani of graphics cards...

Will this new GeForce 9800 GX2 be a constuction similar to the GeForce 7950 GX2, meaning two low power notebook cores on two PCB's each with it's own memory, and for that GDDR4 I presume or a configuration such as AMD's Radeon HD 3870 X2 on a single PCB. We shall soon see... I hope they get it right this time, performance wise. In any case, I'm in and excited...

Re:Okay Quad SLI driver finally available for Windows Vista? - 2008/02/16 10:10 Well you should read some more news about the GeForce 9800 GX2 as it is already know how the card will somehow look like, and yes it will follow the GeForce 7950 GX2 design. But you must know that the GeFOrce 7950 GX2 where not really low power GPU's but something in between the normal and the low power... Dispite some reviews saying low power GPU's, and the something similar for the GeForce 9800 GX2, it are not low power GPU's but they are tweaking the G92 core, the GTS version so that is get's a bit less hot...
