GeForce 6800 GT video problem, due to massive artifacts... - 2007/06/27 07:16 Hey guys. I'm back yet again with the same old stupid GeForce 6800 GT graphics card. I don't have it in my system right now, because I get artifacts even in Windows, lets not even talk about games. I took the heatsink off and took a picture. The thermal compound is smeared everywhere...is this bad? Or could this be the cause of the problem.

Re:GeForce 6800 GT video problem, due to massive artifacts... - 2007/06/27 19:28 Well it could be, but I doubt it very much. Most thermal compound is not conductive... But just clean it and make sure it is nice and clean, then apply a very thin layer of good thermal compound and see what it does. But artifacts are coming mainly from the memory chips beging damaged.

Re:GeForce 6800 GT video problem, due to massive artifacts.. - 2007/07/01 07:43 Yeah I went ahead and clean it anyway. Applied some new compound. Was a no-go. I don't know if you remember but this card has given me nothing but problems from day one. I give up this time. I think it may still be under warranty but is Leadtek even in business? Thanks though Mavke...

Re:GeForce 6800 GT video problem, due to massive artifacts.. - 2007/07/02 08:20 And why wouldn't Leadtek not be in business? Just wondering why you think that as that company is one of those that also sell the Quadro cards... They are still in business and going strong, if if your warranty is okay, then try and get it replaced.

Re:GeForce 6800 GT video problem, due to massive artifacts.. - 2008/01/27 21:42 I have one of those video card as well, check to see if you are missing a resistor. Mine the R529 is off. I wasn't able to get warrenty from Leadtek as there is no serial number on my WinFast 6800 GT. Leadtek doesn't have a good warranty with out there serial number. Which looking at how much copper is on this card. The heat seem to be the biggest problem. Look to see if your missing the R529.

I personally feel these card have problems with the soldier of there components. But hey if yours has a R529 resistor let me know the value of it? If you have an Ohm meter. I wish most company would take reasonability for send out there defective crap. If it has like there name on it. Like these Leadtek cards!

Yeah right... Sorry but that I think you are very unreasonable really cause if a resistor is gone from the card it means that card has not been used as it should and that most likely someone played around it with has only him/herself to blaim about it and it all but normal that the warranty is no longer valid. And that is just it, case closed and warranty gone!

Re:GeForce 6800 GT video problem, due to massive artifacts.. - 2008/01/28 23:50 I have a GeForce 6800 AGP card. If your card is AGP maybe I can help you find the resistor value. Can you upload a picture and circle the area that is missing? Try reducing the memory speed using NiBiTor and flash it into the card. I once had a faulty FireGL V7100 with full screen artifacts. After many hours trying to figure out what's the problem, I put my finger on the memory chips and I feel that my finger is burning. So, I use RaBiT to reduce the memory speed from 500MHz to 300MHz. Anything above 330MHz will produce the same artifacts again. The FireGL V7100 then worked like a charm...

Re:GeForce 6800 GT video problem, due to massive artifacts.. - 2008/02/02 13:19 Well I think it is an AGP card, but I don't think it makes a lot of sense to try this as we don't know if there is really something wrong with the card at all. So unless we don't get the required info what is wrong, then it makes no sense to really spend a lot of time on an old card...
