Palit Radeon HD 3870, and some bad batch of video cards? - 2008/01/18 18:52 In December of 2007 I bought two Radeon HD 3870 cards from Palit. The first one began showing artifacts after about a week of use and then locking up in games and finally died completely after two weeks. Because in my country all computer stores go on vacation immediatly before Christmas I had to wait untill 11th of January to RMA it. Right after I sent off the first card, the second one died while playing Need for Speed: Most Wanted.

Artifacts in BIOS and unable to boot Windows. I guess the memory chips died on both of them. I must say that my computer case, an Antec P182 is very well vented and simply overheating is out of the question. My question is if other people experienced similar problems? I mean it is unfortunate to lose one card but it must be more than bad luck to lose both within a month from purchase.

Re:Palit Radeon HD 3870, and some bad batch of video cards? - 2008/01/18 22:11 Well it could always be but I would check that more directly with Palit. But yeah it is a bit strange as indeed two card in a row sounds strange but yeah NVIDIA also had a bad experience with their GeForce 7900 GT series and a bad batch of Samsung memory chips... So this could also happen to any other manufacturer if a bad batch of memory chips would have been provided.
