GeCube Radeon HD 3870 512MB, flash to OC version advice? - 2007/12/24 09:46Hello, I have a GeCube Radeon HD 3870 with 512MB of GDDR4 memory. I found now two BIOS's in your downloads section, one being the normal version and the other the OC edition. So now I am just wondering if those versions are newer than my original version. How can I see if it is an OC version? Can I flash from normal to the OC BIOS? And is this BIOS original or modified? Is there a program to check the BIOS and graphics card? I do not like to flash the wrong BIOS. Is there a official BIOS update site from GeCube online?

Re:GeCube Radeon HD 3870 512MB, flash to OC version advice? - 2007/12/24 10:49Okay, so I am just guessing you are rather new to the forums, flashing but also graphics cards tweaking if else you would know all the answers already. So let's us start with the basics and that is that all our BIOS's on our downloads section are original non tweaked or modified BIOS's. Now the fact is that GeCube has tow Radeon HD 3870 cards, one being the standard version and one which is featuring the X-Turbo III cooling and that is also called the OC version.
So check the box of your GeCube card and if it doesn't mention the X-Turbo III, then you have the plain and simple normal version. If the BIOS is never than the one on your graphics card? That we can only tell when you provide us a copy of your own BIOS, and that you can do by using ATIWinFlash v2.0.0.2 from within Windows. So make a backup of the BIOS on yoru card and attach it on this thread. And then we will continue with the rest...

Re:GeCube Radeon HD 3870 512MB, flash to OC version advice? - 2007/12/24 20:39Hello, does when I save the BIOS, in the BIOS the serial number of my card included? Or when I flash, I lost my pure serial number?

Euh, I don't know where you gotten that idea but if the serial number would be in the BIOS then all vendor would have to spend extra time and money to flash each of their cards with a a different BIOS and that would be a bit too most costs to keep on producing cards. So no not at all, and that is also why each card comes with stickers which hold the serial number whcih are put on when they leave the manufacturer and being shipped to the different brands.

Re:GeCube Radeon HD 3870 512MB, flash to OC version advice? - 2007/12/27 11:19The OC version BIOS works just fine. All you have to do is flash it using the "-f" parameter. If you use this BIOS, the operating frequencies will be higher and your temperatures lower but all this at your ears expense. The fan will be much noisier as it will have to work harder to maintain the lower pre-programmed temperature target witch is set at about 70°C. Unless you play your games while wearing soundproof headphones I don't recommend flashing a standard Radeon HD 3870 to the OC version.

Re:GeCube Radeon HD 3870 512MB, flash to OC version advice? - 2007/12/28 12:22My last question, okay I can flash OC version or normal with no problems. But there are four different versions... For what firmware and GDDR3 or GDDR4 is this firmware? Or there are no different? When I flash OC version, then I can flash back, or not? - GeCube Radeon HD 3870 (OC) PCIe 512MB, GDDR3 - GeCube Radeon HD 3870 PCIe 512MB, GDDR3 - GeCube Radeon HD 3870 (OC) PCIe 512MB, GDDR4 - GeCube Radeon HD 3870 PCIe 512MB, GDDR4

Re:GeCube Radeon HD 3870 512MB, flash to OC version advice? - 2007/12/28 18:16Euh, and where did you get that the Radeon HD 3870 comes with GDDR3 memory? Cause as far as we have seen and know the Radeon HD 3870 comes only with GDDR4 memory. And having checked the GeCube website and their Radeon HD 3780 products it confirms this, only GDDR4 memory versions. The lower version, the Radeon HD 3850 comes with GDDR3 memory. So you can just flash to the OC version if you want.
