Radeon 9550 SE, but can't play any DirectX 9.0c games?! - 2007/12/05 01:48Hi, I'm new here. I'm planning on upgrading my 2+ year old home computer pretty soon because I can't play the games they make of late. I have an AMD Sempron 2600+ Tbred with 512MB RAM and a GeCube Radeon 9550 SE 128MB card. I know my video card is only DirectX 9.0b hardware compliant, but is there any way to successfully install DirectX 9.0c on the card? I can't play BioShock, F.E.A.R., NBA Live 2006, Half-Life 2: Loast Coast, Chronicles of Riddick and all the other titles which require DirectX 9.0c because everytime I try to install DirectX 9.0c it just won't. Thanks...

Okay, just wondering what does it say when you try to install DirectX 9.0c? Cause you didn't provide all details just that it won't install but you don't give the error why it won't. That might just give enough details to say if it would be possible or not...

Re:Radeon 9550 SE, but can't play any DirectX 9.0c games?! - 2007/12/10 03:53Sorry about that. Well, when I click the next button to proceed with the DirectX 9.0c installation, the setup program goes on to install the drivers for a mere split second and then says it's finished. I think it skips the whole process because I always check and run DXDiag and it says DirectX 9.0b only. I was wondering if there's a workaround to getting the DirectX 9.0c drivers in my System32 folder so that when the DirectX 9.0c games check they'll find these DLL's in my system and continue to run.
I tried manually extracting the DLL's in the files of the DirectX 9.0c installer to my System32 folder and overwriting only the older files there, but when I rebooted I couldn't get my Windows XP running again. I had to reinstall my OS after that. Thanks for any advise.

But you should be able to install DirectX 9.0c normally just fine with the Radeon 9550 SE graphics card. So just download the latest DirectX 9.0c from the Microsoft website and try to install it again...

Cause normally the Radeon 9550 is just okay to use DirectX 9.0c. So really it should just be able to install and there is no way around that by trying to do something manually.

Re:Radeon 9550 SE, but can't play any DirectX 9.0c games?! - 2007/12/14 03:29I've actually reformatted my system lots of times and I just couldn't install DirectX 9.0c. Yesterday I updated my mainboard drivers and re-attempted DirectX 9.0c installation with the same results. I'm pretty much frustrated with this predicament, and I really appreciate all the advise from you.

Re:Radeon 9550 SE, but can't play any DirectX 9.0c games?! - 2007/12/15 10:25Well if you have tried all that I have nu clue neither, just as mentioned normally your card is a valid DirectX 9.0c card so I don't see why it should be failing... Maybe time to think about going for a newer version? Just check and find maybe either a new card or a second hand high card to enjoy again newer games...

Re:Radeon 9550 SE, but can't play any DirectX 9.0c games?! - 2007/12/16 02:11Are you not able to play games on Windows XP SP2 because you have DirectX 9.0b and you can't upgrade to DirectX 9.0c. This problem is being faced by many people who are using Windows XP SP2. Now I will tell you how to uninstall DirectX 9.0b and install DirectX 9.0c. To do so you just need to install a tiny software. Did you ever try DirectX Happy Uninstall?

Thanks for sharing this mate, this sounds to be the solution that might just do the trick. So let's hope this will work and keep our fingers crossed. Never really faced such issues previously though installed DirectX 9.0b and afterwards DirectX 9.0c several times myself without any issues. But okay it seems this is something that does happen sometimes.
