GeForce 7600 GS, upgrade but facing issues with drivers? - 2007/12/16 06:17 I was wanting to upgrade my system from the GeForce FX5700 LE card to the GeForce 7600 GS. My motherboard is an AGP8x and I cleared the drivers and installed the new card which requires a plug from my power supply. I then proceed to install the drivers for the new card. Before the install completes, the screen goes black, sits there for a minute, then the system reboots itself. It then pops up showing that new hardware has been installed showing the new card and asks for the drivers again.

I install them again, the screen goes black and the system reboots as before, but now, after the Windows XP logo goes off and the sign on screen is suppose to appear it doesn't, it just goes black and then reboots itself. I'm lost. I put the GeForce FX5700 LE back in and all is fine, and I am using Windows XP SP2.

Re:GeForce 7600 GS, upgrade but facing issues with drivers? - 2007/12/16 09:44 Just to know is this a new GeForce 7600 GS or you bought it from someone else? Secondly can you try the GeForce 7600 GS in another system, any friends you can visit to try it out. We just want to make sure there is nothing wrong with the GeForce 7600 GS before we try anything else cause it seems as your GeForce 7600 GS is not really working as it should and might just never works in that case.

Re:GeForce 7600 GS, upgrade but facing issues with drivers? - 2007/12/17 01:32 Thanks for the reply. The card is new. I am sure the card is good as this is the second card that I have purchased this week. The first card did the same thing, so I thought it may be bad and I returned it to the store and got a replacement. This card is the second one and still doing the same thing. It just makes no sense to me why the GeForce FX5700 LE works perfect on the same drivers that the GeForce 7600 GS will not work on at all.

I am running the most current drivers that I downloaded off of NVIDIA's webpage and it uses the same drivers for both cards. My power supply is 450W max, and the card calls for a 350W. Could it be something to do with not having enough voltage to the card? The GeForce FX5700 LE does not need external power, but the GeForce 7600 GS does. Thanks so much for your help.

Maybe, what kind of 450W power supply you got exactly? Cause if it is a not so good quality power supply then it can have a bad influence on the performance and system stability and can have some impact on getting it correctly installed.

Re:GeForce 7600 GS, upgrade but facing issues with drivers? - 2007/12/19 23:11 Did you meanwhile solved the problem with your GeForce 7600 GS? If not please report exactly what type of GeForce 7600 GS and mainboard do you use. And furthermore, which is the BIOS version of your video card? The reason for this problem, which you has described, could be a BIOS bug. The initialization phase is potentially to short. Some vendors have solved this problem with a BIOS update. Search for it.

An another, rare possibility is, if you use a AGP/PCI Express combo mainboard. In this case search in the mainboard BIOS for AGP P2P Deep FiFo and choose enabled. At that time I had similarly problems with a GeForce 6800 concerning installation and performance. As far as I know G73 cards with AGP interface need an external power source and G73 cards with PCI Express interface not. But surely insufficient power is not the problem in this case.
