Re:ASUS Extreme AX1650 PRO AGP having problem with driver!? - 2010/06/20 20:41 Well flashing is never error free even when you just flash a fully original valid BIOS with a graphics card, and the simple reason being that yes they come with a firmware that is flashable but not really designed or doing that frequently. It is more a fail safe for what if some series has a real issue and that could be easily fixed through a BIOS update. Yes, sometimes a BIOS can make difference in performance, but I wouln't count on too much. What goes about the driver, they can give a boost but again don't expect miracles.

Re:ASUS Extreme AX1650 PRO AGP having problem with driver!? - 2010/09/09 21:30 So, here I am again finally decided to do the flash. I downloaded the BIOS from the forums and ATIFlash v3.25 and made a bootable USB flash drive. First I formatted the USB stick and extracted on it files from Windws ME using the HP format tool to get to a bootable media. Then I copied the files from ATIFlash v3.25 and the actual BIOS file that I would like to use for flashing the graphics card.

I restarted and booted from USB, saying starting and seeing some Windows ME mentioning and it stopt at the prompt. My question shouldn't I get an ATIFlash command or should I type immediately commands for flashing? Also how to make a backup of my current BIOS, meaning which command to use just in case I don't get ATIFlash console? Thank you.

Yes, that is how it works as you actually now booted to DOS and there you get the prompt and the flash commands you have to type. There is nothing automated, and flashing is done by typing the commands. Also to backup the original BIOS you just type the right command.

ATIFlash v3.xx Commands...
"atiflash -s 1 backup.rom" (Backup Original BIOS)

Re:ASUS Extreme AX1650 PRO AGP having problem with driver!? - 2010/09/10 16:50 Thanks, but that command doesn't work I got invalid command message and I also tried som other with different index or without, but nothing. Any more suggestions? When I type the command it just gives a list and explanation but nowhere is said that my BIOS was saved and when I check the media there is no backup stored. How to do I backup properly?

Re:ASUS Extreme AX1650 PRO AGP having problem with driver!? - 2010/09/10 19:35 Okay, strange but perhaps you can try and use ATIWinFlash software? Just to see if that makes a difference? Cause that will work from within Windows to make the backup and normally should be able to flash as well.

Re:ASUS Extreme AX1650 PRO AGP having problem with driver!? - 2010/09/10 20:27 I tried it and I get the message your screen will blank out for several seconds, which I guess is normal. When I click okay my computer freezes leaving me unable to move mouse and then restarts itself. I did tried one more time and got same result. Well I am going to try with different versions of ATIFlash, and actually ATIFlash v3.12 worked for me. I could backup the BIOS, actually two BIOS-es. I have two adapters like someone who previously wrote here ....

Re:ASUS Extreme AX1650 PRO AGP having problem with driver!? - 2010/09/11 02:08 Okay, I am done flashing and now I can install the drivers. So I installed the Catalyst 10.2 and got a bit smaller marks in Furmark, but I though I would get a significant boost. And also one question, with new BIOS whenever I look at my card its shows Radeon X1600 and shouldn't it be Radeon X1600 PRO? Also my little contribution to others if they have problems with this card is to make a bootable USB media and use ATIFlash v3.15 and the command which worked for me is provided below.

ATIFlash v3.xx Commands...
"atiflash -p -f 0 newbios.rom -atmel"

Of course uninstall your previous drivers and put some new ones. It would also be good that you let ATITool stability test run for 30 mins or plus to ensure everything is okay. Anyway thank you and all others who started this thread. Wish you all good luck!

Thanks for the update and sorry that I shortened it, but all those details you provided have been gives previously and if ot there are already enough posts that do explain that. Second reason being that it is an old thread and might not be so much looked as since most flash their new cards just to get all the performance they can get out of it. But you have done it and that is great, though the performance gains are not really there but that doesn't surprise me that much since it is actually an old card and Furmark has evolved since.
