Re:ASUS GeForce 8800 GT, new PCB card design and silent fan? - 2007/12/17 21:49 Well okay, that is one reason but I doubt somehow that ASUS would find that a real valid reason if you didn't first raise this with their technical support. So yes first raise it and if they have no solution then you should indeed play the unhappy customer and ask to get a replacement with working temp monitoring and fan speed if possible, cause they didn't use the reference cooler.

Re:ASUS GeForce 8800 GT, new PCB card design and silent fan? - 2007/12/17 23:41 And why just don't put your hand in the back of the GPU and see it for yourself if its the custom, Zalman like or such cooler, I bet the card has low temp and should be great for overclocking...

Re:ASUS GeForce 8800 GT, new PCB card design and silent fan? - 2007/12/18 00:07 Hehe, yeah but not all of us leave their computer case open so it would still be nice if you can see the temps of the card somehow in Windows. But indeed this one comes with better cooling so it should be quite an overclocker.

Re:ASUS GeForce 8800 GT, new PCB card design and silent fan? - 2007/12/19 13:10 I've just come from the ASUS forums where a lot of people are not happy with the issue. Anyway ASUS say there will be a new version of SmartDoctor in 2 or 3 days which will read the temp on the card. Hope its true.

Okay, thanks for the feedback, so it seems that ASUS is using a different way or logic and that is why an update of software is required so also their SmartDoctor needs to be updated to read the temps. But okay, I hope they get that fixed.

Re:ASUS GeForce 8800 GT, new PCB card design and silent fan? - 2007/12/21 03:18 Okay, now I got some temps, no fan and/or voltage control yet, another update may fix that. Anyways, just done some overclocking with RivaTuner, took the core to 650MHz, shader to 1625MHz and memory to 1900MHz and got 40°C at idle and 61°C at full full load. Not bad at all. Just tried to apply the overclocking settings to the BIOS with NiBiTor. Flashed fine, but when booted up the memory clock was at 950MHz instead of 1900MHz. Put the original BIOS back and its okay now at 1800MHz. Any ideas?

Re:ASUS GeForce 8800 GT, new PCB card design and silent fan? - 2007/12/21 22:18 Well that sounds strange as others have just been able to change the clock speeds just fine. So I am wondering how you are checking the clock speeds? Cause somehow it might be some issue on your end. Cause the same BIOS as you are using, has been tweaked just fine with NiBiTor for others... Have you disabled RivaTuner before flashing?
