ASUS GeForce 8800 GT, new PCB card design and silent fan? - 2007/12/14 08:56 Hi all, just got my new GeForce 8800 GT from ASUS with the new design, with the dual slot cooling on it. Anyway, I am having problems trying to get a temp reading off the card, it seems other people with the same card are too. Tried RivaTuner, nTune, Everest etc. But all read the temp as 0°C. Just wondered if anyone knows if its a BIOS problem or if the card has no thermal sensor at all? Pretty dumb from ASUS considering they ship an overclocking tool with the card. Let me know if anyone has any ideas.

Re:ASUS GeForce 8800 GT, new PCB card design and silent fan? - 2007/12/14 14:02 Well from what I know it won't normally be the BIOS, but well I can be sure as for that we really would need a copy of the BIOS. Now on the other hand, this card uses a different cooler but that should impact the temp reading, as that is done normally handled by the logic on the card unless this has been stripped off which would be very strange. Can you share the original BIOS of that ASUS graphics card?

Re:ASUS GeForce 8800 GT, new PCB card design and silent fan? - 2007/12/15 00:35 Well I am having the same problem here, same card I think. So here is the BIOS as requested from my ASUS graphics card.
ASUS Extreme N8800 GT 512MB Edition
- Memory : 512MB
- Bus Type : PCI Express
File Attachment:
File name: EN8800GT_G_HTDP_512M.rom
File size:58880 bytes

Re:ASUS GeForce 8800 GT, new PCB card design and silent fan? - 2007/12/15 10:13 Okay, thanks first of all to both for sharing the BIOS. Now I have been checking these and there is no difference with on the BIOS with the same version of other manufacturers so I think it is coming due to the difference in PCB that ASUS is using... So they might have changed some things on it so that temp monitoring is not working and I believe it might be due to using a different temp monitoring chip?

Re:ASUS GeForce 8800 GT, new PCB card design and silent fan? - 2007/12/17 16:57 Okay, so are you saying that a new BIOS is required to get a temp reading off the possible new chip? Or would it need a new NVIDIA driver to solve the issue?

As I mentioned there is nothing wrong with the BIOS which is just fine and does support all as required. So as mentioned either ASUS has changed the PCB and somehow disabled the temp reading or is using different temp reading chip which is not supported as such by the software, so not the drivers... So can you would raise this further with ASUS technical support?

Re:ASUS GeForce 8800 GT, new PCB card design and silent fan? - 2007/12/17 20:07 I know of someone who has raised the issue to ASUS but has had no reply yet. If a BIOS update or driver update cannot fix the issue there is no point me keeping the card. I may have to send it back for another brand.

Well raise it also with ASUS, if only one person does it it has no real impact if more then one do it it has a greater view and they will act faster. And on the point to sent it back? What reason will use cause frankly if the card is working as it should and as far as I can see it is you have nothing to bring is as argument to return it...

Re:ASUS GeForce 8800 GT, new PCB card design and silent fan? - 2007/12/17 21:04 I could return the card as it came with overclocking software from ASUS. How could I possibly use the overclocking software if I have no temp and/or fan speed info. That will be my reason for returning the card. I will raise the issue with ASUS also.
