Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/11/16 11:29I must thank you. I'm really sorry for bothering you. The whole problem was in old nvFlash. I've tried new nvFlash this morning. First I've flashed the Gigabyte BIOS for different memory model and it show some strange squares in different colors. So I've flashed some ASUS Gen1 BIOS and it seems to be working fine. It shows some artifacts after boot, multi colored very short lines in DOS mode but Windows is fine. I'll check it in the afternoon. Some games and/or benchmarks will do the job. So it was all about old version of nvFlash I downloaded from another site. I'm sorry again. Another problem is Zalman cooler running full speed the whole time. But I think software solution can be found. Thanks again.

No problem mate, good that you used now a better version. What you should do is use the newer Gigabyte BIOS but adapt the memory timings according to the original memory timings of the original BIOS. Now that is not as easy as you think, first you need to check what the original memory timings are with the original BIOS on the card and using NiBiTor to find the right TimingSet. Once you know that you need to flash again with the newer Gigabyte BIOS and do the same. Now you adapt in that BIOS that TimingSet with the values of the original BIOS. And once done, save the BIOS and flash again. That should do the trick.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/12/04 08:38Just a small reminder, that all those who have a VIA chipset based mainboard and a GeForce 8800 GT or GTS based upon the G92 with as such a PCI Express 2.0 interface to look at this thread and to make sure you get one of the newest BIOS's for these cards as that will solve the issue that resides with the VIA chipset and it's PCI Express downgrade compatibility.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/12/11 17:01Hi, I bought a XFX GeForce 8800 GT. Unfortunately my mainboard is an ASUS M2V-MX and it doesn't work. I have made a backup of the BIOS. Actually I searched in the XFX BIOS section and I can't find a newer for my GeForce 8800 GT, so if you can help me to find one I would really appreciate it. Thank you very much. XFX GeForce 8800 GT 512MB Alpha Dog Edition - Bus Type : PCI Express - Memory : 512MB

Hehe, yeah that is just XFX, they are somehow know for their well know great support but I haven't seen any of that great stuff they do. The only support they do give is plain and simple sorry nothing we can do. And the only thing you can do is take the BIOS of any other brand that is standard clocked and has a version of 62.92.23.x or newer and flash that to your XFX GeForce 8800 GT graphics card and the problem will be resolved. Or if you really want us to kick some email of to XFX you will need to forward us their response mail...

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/12/12 02:47Actually the XFX support is down so I can't paste my email and their response, anyway in short their answer is change your mainboard because we don't have a new BIOS. Great solution, I know that by my own but actually I'm not that rich. So I will try to flash another BIOS but I have one question, do I have to change the vendor ID with NiBitor to not get errors? Or it's okay like it is? I downloaded the PNY BIOS, it's okay for my XFX? Okay, just now the XFX support is again operative so I paste there the conversation.
[Question - 12/11/2008 12:40:41 AM] Installed it propely and got a black screen on boot. I have heard about some way to flash the BIOS to let this card work with the VIA chipset. If there is another solution I really appreciate yours help. Thanks. [Answer - 12/11/2008 9:30:10 AM] Hi, thanks for your message, sorry we don't have a BIOS update for the VIA chipset the only workaround would be a new mainboard. Regards Jason. [Question - 12/12/2008 4:19:02 AM] I can't see anywhere an incompatibility list for this GPU, and actually I hope to obtain some kind of support because it is a fault of XFX to don't explain that the GeForce 8800 GT got a lot of trouble with the VIA Chipset, anyway I can't believe that I'm the only one who get this kind of issue. I know I'm not the only one, and I can't also believe that the XFX doesn't care about that. In the end I would really appreciate if I would get some kind of help for my problem and not a simple answer like change your mainboad... Thanks Maybe you can do something with this in the hope to help all the other people with XFX GeForce 8800 GT problems like me. Cause clearly from this thread it does show that I am not the only one and that other manufacturers have been able to resolved it in an easy fashion. I must thank you also for your patience.

Okay well, I have sent em a general inquiry and we will see what that does as my previous contact at XFX is no longer working there. Though if you want to enjoy your graphics card any brand will do of BIOS as long as it standard clocked and with a version of 62.92.23.x or newer. If XFX comes back to me I will let you know though I might give them a call this afternoon as well if I feel the need to.

Thanks... Sorry but which card you have exactly? Cause you have the same card and in fact if you are facing the same issue you will just have to follow the same advice as we have given man,y times before and that is to flash it to the version 62.92.23.x or newer. And the brand doesn't matter really, and you can find these BIOS's on this thread some pages ago or on our downloads section.
