Why is my system idle process always using +70% CPU time? - 2007/11/23 13:32 Hi guys, my computer has been getting increasingly sluggish and I've noticed that my system idle process is typically +70% CPU, sometimes 90-100%. I've noticed a dip in performance in games, especially when many things are happening on the screen, the computer begins to chug. I've done spyware scans, virus scans... I have no idea whats up. Any help would be appreciated!

System Specifications...
- Abit AG8 (Intel Grantsdale ICH6R) Mainboard
- Unknown 2GB System RAM
- Intel Pentium 4 540J at 3.2GHz Processor
- Seagate 160GB Hard Disk
- Antec 350W (Model SL350) Power Supply
- Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP2

Re:Why is my system idle process always using +70% CPU time? - 2007/11/23 14:54 Well some program should be causing that, or your system is too overloaded with software which means it is time to cleanup and even do a fresh install of the operating system...

Re:Why is my system idle process always using +70% CPU time? - 2008/03/31 19:28 Well I hate to dig up this corpse of a thread, but here goes. First off I can't speak to what you refer to as sluggish, but as for the system idle process, I can. In short, if you computer is idle you want to see that your system idle process is running near 100%. If you subtract the system idle process percentage from 100%, you get your CPU usage which is displayed at the bottom of the task manager. Hope that clears up the confusion.
