Looking for GeForce 8800 series card, and brand to take? - 2007/11/20 07:09Hi guys! I lost my graphics card to the fight of death, I had an EVGA e-GeForce 8800 Ultra Blackpearl, which needs to be replaced. So I was looking through the shops and I am not sure what to buy next. I do not want to put another €850 into trash can! I gues I should go for a GTX this time and look for an OC edition... Any recommendations or warnings of brands?
Note, I had an at least I think so as it was crashing my computer all time, incompatible XFX GeForce 7950 GX2 before I bought my EVGA e-GeForce 8800 Ultra... Possible brands which are available here are XFX, MSI, ASUS, BFG, EVGA, Gainward, Leadtek... Wasn't able to find some comparison on performance of different brands! If you have a recommendation please write whole model number and/or name. I still have an Innovatek liquid cooler left... Or better wait a bit for new GPU release?

Re:Looking for GeForce 8800 series card, and brand to take? - 2007/11/20 20:24Well just wondering what happenend with your EVGA card? Cause EVGA has a very good warranty on their cards so why can't you return it in RMA? Cause I don't see anyone really wanting to throw away €850... And for the question, I would wait... Currently you got the GeForce 8800 GTS with 112sp and 640MB based upon the G80 but another one is coming based on the G92, next to the GeForce 8800 GT. And I would put my horses on that one (December timeframe).

Re:Looking for GeForce 8800 series card, and brand to take? - 2007/11/21 14:17Well EVGA's RMA service did return the card without testing it due visual dirt they say. I got some cooling liquid on the card which left a brown color on the backside, which did never happen! I have no clue where the color comes from... They told me I can put it in trash can, they even asked me if I want it returned and go buy a new one! The problem I described is for me more a DVI connector problem than a problem with a water defect, as if I got a water defect the whole card is busted, and does not work for hours and puts out random green bits when you touch the cable or card...
Seems senseless to discuss with em, as I had em on phone 30 mins, which is not really cheap as I have to call in my neighbour country! So what I read from your post... There might be or will be? A GeForce 8800 GTX with G92 chipset? Erm called GeForce 9800? And euh, can't even have higher resolution than 1280x800 at my monitor now, looks bullshit at 30". As I heard that they only produce a GTS models with 45nm and NVIDIA does not see a need to update to a faster card...

Re:Looking for GeForce 8800 series card, and brand to take? - 2007/11/21 21:24I guess you need to read what I wrote and not come up with other information. If you can point out me mentioning anything about a new GTX? I didn't think so, so don't put words in my mouth that I didn mention. So just so you got it right there is really coming another G92 based graphics card. And yes that is for sure as we saw it already but can't say more than that. Sorry... You will have to wait till we can speak about it. But it is coming early December.

Re:Looking for GeForce 8800 series card, and brand to take? - 2007/11/23 13:00On December 3rd the GeForce 8800 GT arrives stores here. Guess that's what you meant... But that's no secret, as it's listed in all shops.

Secondly the GeForce 8800 GTS as know now with the G80 and 112sp is also already available, but there is still another one coming more down the line of the GeForce 8800 GT...

Okay, then at least we are inline with what is upcoming, but the 3rd is not 100% confirmed, could be the 12th as well... Although for the moment all eyes are on the 3rd.
