Hi, I fixed the problem by buying a new motherboard. Thanks Christmas! I couldn't wait, was too hard seeing this GeForce 8800 GT not working for 3 weeks now. I'm gonna try to contact TwinTech in order to help other people. I'll tell you if they answer or not. Thank you Mavke for your help...
Thanks for the update mate, and yes please keep us posted on anything that you get from TwinTech cause that would help a lot, as the BIOS has some changes and we have some trouble to PCI Express downgrade to work as it should.

I am going to mail XFX technical support and see if I get anything. Right now I do not have access to a mainboard to backup the BIOS, but I will in a couple days.
Great, thanks for contacting XFX, and I hope they will come up with a solution and hopefully not with the old BIOS that we already know but the new one as it seems NVIDIA did make soem changes and the function to downgrade is now different it seems...

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0!? - 2007/12/08 10:14 Okay Mavke, I will also contact XFX support and report back when I hear from them. I was able to boot my XFX card in an older system with an ASUS A8N-E motherboard but obviously I would prefer to run it in my Core 2 Duo system.

Great thanks mate, now I will see as well what I can do with XFX and some others as this is becoming quite important and it seems NVIDIA has a bit forgotten users with chipset that are not NVIDIA nor Intel... But well somehow we are getting use to NVIDIA forgotting other chipset makers....

Can you share with us the BIOS's, meaning your original BIOS and the one you used to flash your card with? Then we can have a look and see what the difference is exactly... Thanks!

Okay, see the attached file. But after some reboots, it isn't working with the other firmware either. Only way to get it working is to start the computer without PCI Express power plugged in, card beeps, plug in the power while computer is running and press the computers reset button. After this procedure, the card works like a charm... Very strange.

I have contacted TwinTech, tell them the problem in order to have a Gen1 BIOS for this GeForce 8800 GT. I'm waiting for their answers and I'll give it to you as soon as they answer me.

Okay, I checked the BIOS's and your original BIOS is the same as we have but your Gen1 BIOS is not the same as the one we have... So can you make sure to try with the proper Gen1 BIOS for the ASUS graphics card? Cause I know that this worked for users having the same issue.

Great stuff, keep us posted and I hope that also TwinTech will come up with a valid working Gen1 BIOS to support those who are left out with no so good mainboards having problems with PCI Express compatibility.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0!? - 2007/12/11 23:54 Hi there, you will never guess, I have a problem too. New Inno3D GeForce 8800 GT OC card is not compatible with the ASUS PV5-VM DH mATX motherboard running a VIA Chipset. Tested card in my ASUS A8N32-SLI Deluxe and had no problems at all. I will happily supply you the BIOS to the Inno3D card later in the week and am hopeful you can provide back as Gen1 to flash and re-test on quoted mainboard. I have emailed Inno3D tonight and will await a response from them. You must be creating a nice catalogue of GeForce 8800 GT BIOS now in Gen1 format! I hope you can help. Many thanks...

Okay, we will be looking forward to the BIOS from you and it is good that you also contacted Inno3D cause if all brands get enough feedback on this issue. And if they sent you a updated BIOS please also provide it to us so we can enhance support of this feature in NiBiTor.
