Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0!? - 2009/01/27 18:57 rokz wrote:

Yes that is a known issue and actually we haven't seen any 1GB version so far of the GeForce 8800 GT with a BIOS that fixes this cause the reference card designed by NVIDIA is jst with 512MB and those that came out with a 1GB version did that at their own choice and NVIDIA was not involved. You will need to contact the maker of the graphics card really. Which brand is it actually? And yes I moved your message to the correct thread.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0!? - 2009/02/11 02:32 Okay, I have got an ASRock mainboard and an XFX GeForce 8800 GT, the normal clocked version, stock reference 600MHz. So you say to get any other BIOS with the newer version and to just flash that. But doesn't memory timings matter? I really wish XFX would just release a BIOS, I mean its not impossible, they can obviously do it, EVGA did it, they have no excuses. Also what would be the full command to flash it.

Euh this is only required it you have a VIA chipset powering your mainboard and not just related to ASRock. And I have deleted the extra lines you have put as it is just not a good idea to flash back to the Gen1 BIOS version since the 62.92.23.x or newer BIOS's work just fine for normally any card. And the memory timings you just don't adapt as easy as you put so that would give a very bad experience. If the memory timings really give an issue you would see that and then you just flash back. If else I am indeed saying any brand will do as most use the same memory chips.

nvFlash v5.xx Commands...
"nvflash -b backup.rom" (Backup your Original BIOS)
"nvflash -5 -6 newbios.rom" (Normal BIOS Flashing)
"nvflash -4 -5 -6 newbios.rom" (Forced BIOS Flashing)

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any ways to edit out PCI Express 2.0!? - 2009/02/11 21:36 Thank you and I did what you said and instead of the ASUS Gen1 BIOS I tried the EVGA BIOS, no problems playing World of Warcraft and Crysis. Thanks again.

Thanks for the update mate, and as you see it works just fine. Most GeForce 8800 GT cards are the same as they all come from NVIDIA and have the same memory really. Only some brands come with different memory on some series but even then most will just work with the default memory timings. Good job and have fun!
