Re:Who is owning a GeForce 8800 GT, and ready for tweaking? - 2008/02/17 11:33Hi, I have a couple of questions... Which program do you use to overclock the GeForce 8800 GT? For me nTune works, but my settings are reset when I reboot. Is it possible to adjust the shader clock individually or is it adjusted with the core? How do I check if my card is at 1.05V or 1.10V? MSI GeForce 8800 GT 512MB OC Edition - Memory : 512MB - Bus Type : PCI Express

Well any software that is not auto started when Windows is starting up will just reset the clock speeds at the default. So either you use a tool like RivaTuner to also set these clock at startup or you will need to use NiBiTor to modify the clock speeds on the BIOS and flash your card with this BIOS.
When you look at your BIOS with NiBiTor, you will see that the Extra mode is what this card is using and the voltage is actually blank. This means the default voltage level is active which gives only 1.05V. Now by just changing on the Extra tab the voltage to 1.10V and saving the BIOS and then flashing yoru card it will run at 1.10V. Nothing more, nothing less.

Re:Who is owning a GeForce 8800 GT, and ready for tweaking? - 2008/02/17 14:22Okay, thank you. So the Extra field is for the G92's? They don't have 2D and 3D modes right? Or am I wrong on this? Let me know and then I can start playing around.

That is right although some have tried it but with a 3D mode it doesn't work really and the 2D mode works sometimes which I believe is linked to special versions. So only use the Extra mode to ste the clock speeds, as when you are not gaming the GPU will throttle down by its own.

Re:Who is owning a GeForce 8800 GT, and ready for tweaking? - 2008/02/18 18:51One more thing, if I want to raise the shader clock in NiBiTor, can I enter any value or does it have to correspond with a ratio? Just wondering so I know what to take into account.

Well you can put any value doesn't matter about a ratio, but there is of course some kind of optimal setting for every type of graphics card, and it doesn't go up with 1MHz but in jumps af about 7-14MHz at once. That is what you will need to take into account more or less.

Re:Who is owning a GeForce 8800 GT, and ready for tweaking? - 2008/02/19 23:11Thought I would share this with you guys, my card did 700MHz core with a waterblock at stock voltage, tried to raise the voltage to 1.10V and still doesn't go any further. This is another confirmation that voltage often doesn't help the overclock on the GeForce 8800 GT...

Well that is your card and that doesn't count for all, and we have seen much more results where the extra voltage does make a difference. But what you need to know is that cards that can do 700MHz or a bit more with the default voltage, don't see much of a increase when going for the higher voltage, while less fortunate users who can't reach 700MHz can generally reach it after the small voltage increase.

Re:Who is owning a GeForce 8800 GT, and ready for tweaking? - 2008/02/22 23:47Hey, I just want some feedback on what I have just done to confirm this is correct. I used NiBiTor v3.8 to edit my Inno3D GeForce 8800 GT OC BIOS from 1.05V to 1.10V under the Extra drop down and also changed the core from 650MHz to 700MHz and the memory from 1900MHz to 2000MHz and saved the BIOS. I then flashed the edited BIOS and used Everest, GPU-Z and nTune to check the new clocks which are confirmed at 700/2000MHz and then I ran 3DMark06.
I got 9988 marks with the 700/2000MHz on Windows Vista compared to 9786 marks with the 650/1900MHz so not a massive improvement. Also the temp under full load was 62°C so not to bad! Please find attached the BIOS I used if someone can check I have edited the correct things so my GeForce 8800 GT doesn't blow up! Thanks

Re:Who is owning a GeForce 8800 GT, and ready for tweaking? - 2008/02/23 09:48Your changes are just fine, and since you used NiBiTor to just make these simple changes I wouldn't really bother checking but since you asked I did, but as I suspected the BIOS is tweaked just fine. And it is normal that you won't gain so much as the main driver to get better performance is a faster CPU that comes back into the equation.
