I just got a PNY GeForce 8800 GT and have an ASRock 4CoreDual-SATA2. I've read through this forum and have successfully flashed the BIOS to EVGA 62.92.24.00.01 of this thread. It boots up fine, but I get occasional lockups while in Windows, even while doing nothing at all. After double checking that it wasn't a power supply problem, I have a Fortron 535W power supply with 28A on the 12V rail, I've determined its definately the memory settings.
The memory timings from the original PNY BIOS are far looser than the EVGA one. Both the new and the old BIOS use TimingSet 1 as the active one. My question, there are a total of eight TimingSet values, and in comparing the original PNY to the EVGA BIOS, TimingSets 1, 3 and 6 have different values, while the rest of the TimingSets have identical values. Shouldn't I change the values of all the TimingSets that have different values to what the original BIOS has? If not, can you explain why? Only one TimingSet is active and that means only that one will actually be used, the others are just there as dummy as never looked at. So in your case you just have to adapt the TimingSet 1 and that is it. The best way however would be having the newer BIOS directly from PNY itself for your card.

There is a newer one available from PNY? I looked through everything on the PNY site and here and couldn't find one. Also what effect does changing the vendor ID, sub vendor ID, sub system ID have other than to allow vendor specific software to run? Thanks.

Normal that PNY doesn't have BIOS's on their website they sent these out when requested and when it is really an issue which it is in thise case. So you are best to contact the PNY support or you can use a BIOS from another brand and no those mentioned ID's are just ID's that don't impact anything.

Cause from what you have so far stated I don't think you have memory problems, rather not yet set the right memory timings as you should have if you flash a different brand BIOS. Now you do know that when you do an RMA and the manufacturer doesn't find an issue with the card they have the right to just sent the card back, and you pay for the all the costs?

This version is actually new, and should fix the PCI Express stuff as the version is 62.92.23.x or higher. We are checking the BIOS now and adding it very soon.

I even put on an additional power supply to the auxilary 12V connector, giving it an additional 17Amps in addition to my Fortron 535W unit. It runs somewhat okay until I install the NVIDIA drivers. I've tried ForceWare 175.16, 175.19 and 178.13 driver versions with the same results. So its not the BIOS or the power, but something defective on the card.
Originally after I had first flashed to the EVGA BIOS, it was stable enough for me to run 3DMark tests with the ForceWare 175.19 drivers. But after a few hours, the instability set in, and its gone downhill ever since. Now that you've posted the new PNY BIOS, I feel pretty confident that a replacement card, flashed with it if need be, may do the trick. Thanks.
