Though I would think this is another issue just between this MSI mainboard and your GeForce 8800 GT, but this is very strange.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/07/28 20:41 I tried laying the computer on it's side and flashing the video card BIOS to the Rev.07 and then to Rev.02 Gen1, and that didn't help. So I ended up returning the motherboard. Hopefully the new one will work with my video card and it is indeed just the motherboard that was having problems. Thanks for your help.

So it just follows my logic that flashing the graphics card BIOS wouldn't make any change...

I would think card manufacturers would make these BIOS files ready on their web sites for download. I have an EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GT SuperClocked card that I'm having the same issues with. Is there a Gen1 BIOS out for this card yet? I did see a BIOS for a stock EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GT way back in this thread but it would be nice to maintain the higher clocks if possible. Thanks.

Yes a pain it might be but( no most won't put the BIOS's online as then a lot of owners would just flash because there is a newer version and they actually don't have any issues with the card and the flashing of a graphics card can go wrong, and more frequently then you think. You don't need a Gen1 BIOS as NVIDIA fixed it via a much better way but you need to get a 62.92.23.x or higher version and we have what you look in our downloads section for your EVGA SuperClocked version.

This BIOS for me is still problematic. I've looked at this BIOS with the NiBiTor tool and don't have the option to change it from Gen2 to Gen1, the option is greyed out. As is now with the 62.92.24.x BIOS the card does not post on my ABIT FP-IN9 SLI motherboard. It does post and work fine on an ASUS P5B board though. I wonder if EVGA will release a 62.92.25.x BIOS that will allow me to use this card in a normal way on the ABIT board.

The function to go to Gen1 was a first option which has become completely obsolete and really was an option that also gave you a slower card, all the new BIOS's don't have that option as the PCI Express compatibility issues was resolved since 62.92.23.x or newer. Secondly you don't have a VIA chipset, but an nForce 650 chipset, and only the VIA chipset have a problem with the full PCI Express 2.0 support.

So what you are having as an issue, whatever it might be will not be the same as what this thread is about. And will as such maybe not be solved by flashing a newer graphics card BIOS but rather a fix for the mainboard BIOS. So if I were you I would first see what ABIT can do for you on getting the latest BIOS for the mainbaord. Cause if your card doesn't work on it with the 62.92.24.x version this has no longer much to do with the PCI Express issues.

That is also an idea of course but I don't see it really as a given to just change when something isn't working. But yeah if it can't be fixed with an updated mainboard this might be an easy solution...

After searching this forum I found out that I have to flash a Gen1 BIOS to my video card, or use a new BIOS that also supports PCI Express 1.0a slots. All of the BIOS posted here don't work for me. So, if anyone knows what to do, I would be grateful.
