I recently purchased a PNY GeForce 8800 GT 512MB. My problem is after I installed it, nothing is displayed on my monitor. As if it just wasn't plugged in or something. I searched around a bit and found out that it could possibly be my mainboard.
Oh yeah, I moved your post to the right thread which is the resource that many have used to get their GeForce 8800 GT working. Well it is certainly your mainboard and that is due to the VIA chipset. So as mentioned already on several posts before you need to get to a friend with a non-VIA based mainboard and flash your graphics card with a BIOS of version 62.92.24.x or higher to solve the PCI Express compatibility. And these BIOS's you can find on this thread just go back some pages.

Sure I'll send it to you but I can't see your email address anymore, send it to me again. I flashed my card with this the EVGA e-GeForce 8800 GT BIOS which has a version 62.92.24.00.01 that I found on this tread. Just to clarify, my card is BFG GeForce 8800 GTS OC edition. Hope it makes more sense.
Thanks for the mail with the BIOS from BFG and that one is actually a good BIOS for a GeForce 8800 GT, though it has only the partial fix for the PCI Express compatibility included and is actually not so new. I really don't get why everyone is always stating BFG has such an excellent support cause frankly I just don't get why they can provide what you asked for...

But I would suggest that you download from our downloads section any BIOS for the GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB from any brand, that has a version 62.92.25.x. I have done a search and we have several available, I would however suggest to go for the EVGA or Point of View versions. Just try these as such, and if these work fine you can then use NiBiTor to set the clock speeds like the BFG OC version.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/06/09 03:36 I can't believe it, it is working. I used the Point of View BIOS and I was able to instal the most recent drivers from NVIDIA. Guys, thank you very much. Now I will have to read on the NiBiTor cause I have no idea how this work. Thanks again.

As expected, this 62.92.25.x version is the one that has the PCI Express compatibility fix for the 92 based GeForce 8800 GTS cards. And the drivers couldn't work well, cause you had a GTS board and a GT BIOS, and the ID's would be conflicting for the drivers to recognize the card, as some ID's can not be easily overwritten with a BIOS flash. Well, NiBiTor is not really difficult so you will easily find your way around.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/06/14 13:19 I picked up a Galaxy GeForce 8800 GT off eBay like four months ago and couldn't get it to work. All this time I thought it was a dud card but after reading this forums I realized it was just incompatible with my motherboard. I've tried to flash it with a bunch of the firmwares in this thread and I actually had limited success with the one, but still can't get it to work 100%. I could see well enough to type in DOS, but the graphics were corrupted. I'm at the stage where admitting defeat and asking for help would probably be a good idea, so please, could someone give me a hand with this?

Okay, but before we start can we get some extra info as to what the issue is with the card? First do you have a mainboard with a VIA chipset? And what did the card do initially when you got it? Did it just give a blank screen or unreadable stuff like artifacts? Cause for either way there is a different way to see if it can be fixed...

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/06/15 13:08 My motherboard is an ASRock Dual-VSTA. It does indeed have a via chipset. Anyway, the card didn't work at all when I first got it, I just got a blank screen. I assumed it was dead until I read about this issue, then I took it round to a friend's house and it worked perfectly in their system. After flashing the card with a PCI Express compatible BIOS from this thread the card displayed artifacts but semi-worked.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2008/06/15 13:28 Artifacting could indicate memory instability if you got the timings wrong. So as you indicate the memory timings will be most likely the issue, so the best way would be to know the actual timings of your graphics card.

Here's the BIOS I tried using. I chose this one because it was a GeForce 8800 GT from the same manufacturer, but looking at it in NiBiTor, it had a different memory speed and different timings. I changed those to what my card's settings were before flashing it.

Well I don't care about what BIOS you tried really cause if you didn't make the correct changes it is quite normal it will show artifacts. So to start digging into this, do you know which TimingSet your graphics card uses? And by that I mean, have you used at your friend NiBiTor to find out what TimingSet your card uses? And then you also need to know which TimingSet is used on the BIOS you tried and the only way is to also find that out with NiBiTor.

You might ask why should I do that twice? That is very simple and has to do that each BIOS can have their own active TimingSet and currently we have no way of changing the active state of a TimingSet but we can change the values of the active TimingSet. Though since you use a different BIOS that will surely use a different TimingSet and you will have to change that one to match it with the value of your original BIOS.
