Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2007/12/16 09:15wergio wrote: This incompatibility is very strange to me, any ideas? The GPU fan always stays at maximum during boot and no outpunt is sent to video. The slot is a normal PCI Express 16x full version and I think it is version 1.0a. Mmm, well this has worked for others... Well, can you try the ASUS Gen1 BIOS on your card? Just to see if that makes a difference as that BIOS has worked for quite some to run their GeForce 8800 GT even if it is not an ASUS card. I just want to know if that makes a difference or not. I would somehow assume not but want to be sure before we start some bigger talks with NVIDIA around this.

I tried three times and nothing at 4th this start and I have a high speed fan and nothing at screen, but PC looks like on but nothing happens. Well if you would have read this thread first you would know what the issue is already and that you are facing the same thing as all other on this thread and that is the PCI Express of your mainboard is not fully okay to downgrade the graphics cards PCI Express 2.0 to the previous version. So if you want to use the card either you do as you have done now by removing the power however I wouldn't do that too much as very bad for the system.
So what you should do it backup the original BIOS and attach it on this thread and flash your card with the Gen1 BIOS for ASUS that you can find on this thread and that should fix the issues. So can you try that, but really make sure you first make a backup of the BIOS and also attach it on this thread.

This operation should be safe 99%, just wondering? Thanks...

Yes that is normal when you flash a BIOS from another brand, so you will indeed need to force the BIOS flash, and yes it should be quiet safe, but as you know with graphics card even with a fine BIOS which is completely okay a flash can go bad as it doesn't always depend on the BIOS... But yes these days flashing is becoming better each time.

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2007/12/16 12:45Well, seems like most users can use the ASUS BIOS, but what are the advantages of manually patching and/or adjusting in my case the MSI BIOS? Are there any major differences?

Are there any major differences? Isn't that obvious, when we state that we only have the old version, meaning the first version of the GeForce 8800 GT that can be changed from Gen2 to Gen1? It means you are using an older BIOS which means that some issues are resolved by NVIDIA on the first BIOS and it is always best to use the BIOS of your card as it might be thet MSI has tweaked some parameters as well for better operation... So we rather has a tweaked and/or updated BIOS from the same brand or of the original BIOS then to cross flash with another brands BIOS...

Re:GeForce 8800 GT, and any way to edit out PCI Express 2.0? - 2007/12/17 12:37Unfortunately available Club3D model BIOS are all of the new type we must wait a new version of NiBiTor to come out with support to set Gen1 on this kind of new BIOS. By the way, you have a barebone similar to mine. I have SN25P and a Sparkle GeForce 8800 GT, I flashed a modified Gen1 BIOS on my GeForce 8800 GT but unfortunately is not working even with it. The operating system boots up without video output! Let me know if you fix the problem, bye...
