Re:Sapphire Radeon X1650 (RV530), some BIOS help wanted? - 2007/12/20 02:28 As it reads from top to bottom on the side from the memory chips, so let me know what you think. And there is another chip on the top side nearly opposite the GPU, what is it? And there is also a jumper saying something about NTSC and/or PAL, what is this for?

Memory Chips Details...
- Qimonda

Re:Sapphire Radeon X1650 (RV530), some BIOS help wanted? - 2007/12/20 15:05 It's Qimonda DDR2 memory which has a speed of 800MHz effective, and the details goes as follows according to the specifications from Qimonda. And the NTSC and/or PAL is all about the TV-out. Where NTSC is used in America and Japan, while PAL is used in Europe as standard signal.

Qimonda DDR2 Memory Details...
- 07/20 : Production Date (Year 2007, Week 20)
- HYB : Standard prefix for Memory components
- 18 : Supply voltage (18 = 1.8V)
- T : Memory Type (T = DDR2 SDRAM)
- 512 : Memory Density (512 = 512MB DDR2)
- 16 : Organization (16 = x16)
- 1 : Product Variant
- B : Product Revision Die Revision
- F : Package (F = FBGA)
- 25 : Speed (25 = 400MHz)

Re:Sapphire Radeon X1650 (RV530), some BIOS help wanted? - 2007/12/20 17:32 So how fast can it go then? Around 500MHz, and this doesn't change the fact that ATIFlash won't let me flash it anyway?

Well it confirms that you have DDR2 memory and that you can't run it at the speed you where indicating, for these 2.5ns memory chips you can generally reach 900-1000MHz effective speed when overclocking.

Re:Sapphire Radeon X1650 (RV530), some BIOS help wanted? - 2007/12/20 21:03 Okay, so how do I change the checksum? Or what can I do? Cause I can't flash and I still don't know why, it is becoming frustrating.

Re:Sapphire Radeon X1650 (RV530), some BIOS help wanted? - 2007/12/20 22:53 I have attached Mavke's BIOS with corrected checksum. Now run ATIFlash from Ms-DOS and do the following commands.
ATIFlash v3.xx Commands...
"atiflash -ai" (Get the Right Adapter # Number)
"atiflash -p -f # s1650poc.rom" (Normal BIOS Flash)
File Attachment:
File name: s1650poc-checksum.rom
File size:62976 bytes

Re:Sapphire Radeon X1650 (RV530), some BIOS help wanted? - 2007/12/21 21:22 Well I have done as you mentioned and got as adapter #0, and I still get the same error 0FL01 when trying to flash the graphics card.

Well just a hint that work for others, can you try an older version of ATIFlash, like ATIFlash v3.25? Cause it seems the never versions have some issues with the older cards while flashing giving the error that you mentioned.

Re:Sapphire Radeon X1650 (RV530), some BIOS help wanted? - 2007/12/23 01:00 Well I basically tried every version of ATIFlash I have found on the downloads section, from ATIFlash v3.49 and down. And yes, finally ATIFlash v3.15 finally worked. Now I just have to get Catalyst drivers to read the new defaults, thanks for all the help.

As I suspected and as we also have seen with nvFlash for NVIDIA cards, you always are best to use the flashing software that was released when the cards came out and in case of the Radeon X1650 series that is the ATIFlash v3.15, and the same thing we saw for NVIDIA cards... Seems when they make changes some compatibility is lost for older versions to work fine...
