Radeon X1900 XTX bad flash, no adapter found can you help? - 2007/08/20 01:48Hi, I've flashed my Radeon X1900 XTX with a Radeon X1950 PRO PCI Express BIOS. After this computer refuse to boot up. When I turn it on I will hear laud noise from graphics card fans and there is no post beep. For your info I've got original BIOS saved before I've started playing. When I use my SiS PCI graphics card and boot with it into DOS, ATIFlash doesn't recognize any adapter, no adapter found. I've tried same on Windows XP with ATIFlash for Windows and with ashROM and don't see my ATI card. Do you guys know any tool that could possibly flash my video card? Thanks in advance...

Re:Radeon X1900 XTX bad flash, no adapter found can you help? - 2007/08/20 08:34Why... Yeah why did you even think about doing that and actually done it? Really I don't get you guys. Isn't anyone thinking twice and trying to just look a bit further? Of course it would fail, that is only normal. The Radeon X1900 XTX used the R520 graphics core while the Radeon X1950 PRO is using a completely different RV570 graphics chip. Flashing a video card will only work when the graphics chips are the same and when also the memory is more or less aligned. Yeah, I had to mention this as we mentioned this already a thousand times and still we see the same stuff over and over again.
The problem in your situation isn't the best one, as when the Radeon X1900 XTX is alone in the system, it doesn't boot at all which is a bad start. When you add the PCI graphics card it does but the ATI adapter is not recognized. So that means exactly what I thought it would do, the chips and card are too different and now your card just can let the system know that it is present. The way I see it you just got one thing that can be done and that is to see if you can get an RMA...

Re:Radeon X1900 XTX bad flash, no adapter found can you help - 2007/08/20 10:53Huh, I felt safe with my PCI graphics card. I wanted to change card to be seen as a Radeon X1950 series. But down to business, you're guru in the BIOS field. And I bet you know ways to fix it. Whatever it takes... I'm hardcore computer user and should be able to do it, I've seen something about soldering out BIOS chip and flashing it on ext EEPROm. Anything else I can try?

Re:Radeon X1900 XTX bad flash, no adapter found can you help - 2007/08/20 11:19Well as long as the card doesn't get recognized your are screwed... The only thing I know is that mainboards that have an Intel chipset are better to recognize faulty graphics cards and that we have seen that on some mainboards the cards is not found, and using an Intel based mainboard it is and can then be flashed back. And no you are never save if you don't follow the samples rules of flashing, which is to only try when the chips are the same. Even if you would try to flash a Radeon X1900 XTX to a Radeon X1950 XTX, which would be more logic it would not work, due to different chips, meaning R520 against the R580...

Re:Radeon X1900 XTX bad flash, no adapter found can you help - 2007/08/20 11:27Okay, I will keep that in mind the different cores rules. And I can agree about some mainboards are better I remember something like that back in time of flashing ATI Radeon 9500 PRO. Do you remember which mainboards are those or any topics that mentions them?

Re:Radeon X1900 XTX bad flash, no adapter found can you help - 2007/08/20 12:35Well I would say to visit some friends who has a PC and try to see if it can detect the card on those. But the best mainboards are with Intel chipsets like the 915 series, 975X Express series and so on...

Re:Radeon X1900 XTX bad flash, no adapter found can you help - 2007/08/20 15:24Gee, tried on Intel P35 and no luck, other then that I don't have any other Intel mainboards. I think its time to unsolder the EEPROM chips and reflash it on external flash writer. Any suggestions where I can buy an appropriate one?

Nope, no clue mate and I don't think it is as easy as you think it is. I know that we have had one person on our forums who has done it and that was because he know the risks and had done it in the past already for a mainboard. Frankly speaking I would just try to RMA the card...

Re:Radeon X1900 XTX bad flash, no adapter found can you help - 2007/08/20 21:51There is no warranty for it any more. We are hardcore and experienced enough to the soldering/flashing job. Will post result here. Thanks for all the support I've received from you.

Re:Radeon X1900 XTX bad flash, no adapter found can you help - 2007/08/23 19:59Hey, actually I've flashed ATI Radeon X1900 XTX card with a Sapphire Radeon X1950 PRO BIOS. I've heard that Sapphire made their own flash tool which might be required to see Sapphire cards. Can anyone put some light on this?
