Re:Problem with 6600GT and HL2 - 2005/01/05 14:11 How to check if I have hardware conflict?
and about Half Life 2, all the people I know told me that I can run the game at the highest display preferences, and still to have more than avarage FPS of 60+.
But I can't...

Re:Problem with 6600GT and HL2 - 2005/01/05 17:11 40 - 60 fps seems pretty good to me for playing HL2 with max quality settings... I have a 6800 GT and I dont know if I get that framerate. In HL2 the framerate also depends (more so than in other games is what I have heard) on whether you're inside or outside, outside settings renders significantly slower, it had something to do with the cpu load vs. the gpu load in outside and inside settings...

Re:Problem with 6600GT and HL2 - 2005/01/06 03:33 I have P4 3GHz, 512 DDR RAM, Albatron AGP GeForce 6600GT.

I run HL2 at 1024X768, AA anf AF off, no sync something, and all the other options [shadow, water misc] at highest.

I have average FPS of 30 I think. it can get really high only if I'm looking at the floor :.

Here's a comparison of misc video cards' performance with Half-Life 2:

Re:Problem with 6600GT and HL2 - 2005/01/10 10:58 Some of this might have been mentioned, but just in case:

How many processes are you running in the background?
(my win2k has 13 right now, all I need)

Are there any errors in the device manager? (missing/uninstalled drivers for example?)

Have you checked your bios-settings for the Mobo?
(Lots of stuff to check there, like thermal Throttling OFF, CAS-latencies and such)

Do you have sufficient power?

I personally dont know how good a 6600GT is, but its memory bus is only 128 bit, whereas the 6800 has 256 bit. This, Im told, has quite an impact on the performance. However, the pipelines and vertexshaders on a 6800 can be unlocked, perhaps similiar tweaks are possible on the 6600. Check guru3d.com. This thread
http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?s=88fc0f4de386956166a7d708e104e0ae&threadid=121073

has some discussion on 6600GTs performance.

Overclock the card, or its memory frequencies. All I can tell you is that a Leadtek 6800LE is a whole lot of bang for the buck, since it practically unlocks up to above 6800NU specs, sometimes up to 6800 GT specs, with a simply Rivatuner-setting.

Good luck.

*EDIT* On another note, the issue with stuttering in HL2 is VERY common, I have it myself. Theres even a homepage devoted to solving it and making Valve acknowledge it as a major bug. I solved my stuttering by setting ingame textures to medium quality. I know that its boring, but the problem is connected to texture swapping and this solved it for me. Also try setting sound quality to medium, because its not noticable anyway. BTW, this temporary solution was suggested by a Nvidia engineer.

Re:Problem with 6600GT and HL2 - 2005/01/19 21:43 Here are the processes that are running at the backround.
Can you tell me which of them are not needed please?

Thx

I've attached the picture as a file, because the max picture height,
that is allowed to be attached, is 499 pix and you'll not understand the picture.

Re:Problem with 6600GT and HL2 - 2005/01/19 21:57 :- I didn't RAR it, so it failed but now I cant add other file so here it is.
File Attachment:
File name: Processes.rar
File size:65225 bytes

Re:Problem with 6600GT and HL2 - 2005/01/20 02:33 I checked your processes, and you do have many more than I have running, but you run Norton or something like it, along with a lot of inbuilt windows services allbaked into svchosts-processes. Theres really no unnecessary processes from what I can see, and since you have 1 gig ram you wont gain anything by freeing up those last few Mb. Your processor runs at 20%, but thats probably due to paint. So, at least we know the problems not in the background processes.

Re:Problem with 6600GT and HL2 - 2005/01/23 22:20 Maybe I have connected the video card wrongly?
Although games are warking pretty good and there are not error windows.

Maybe some options of the video card are blocked or something?
Or maybe 512 DDR RAM is just not enough for new games.

Do you this any of this occurrences could be the case?
