Problem with 6600GT and HL2 - 2004/12/25 11:25 Hi, I have Albatron GeForce 6600GT AGP 128MB 128bit with the latest drivers installed [this card's driver is from nVidia website].
First of all I may mention that its a new computer [P4 3GHz, 216 DDR 400MHz X 2 [512], and the video card mentioned above]. I don't have viruses or spyware, and I don't have lots of programs that are running at the backround.

Now, the problem is, in Need for speed underground 2 with all the best display options and 1027X768 res its FPS is 30!

and in Half Life 2 not only that the recommended display settings are low for most options, when I menually put them on high [1024X768 res, AA trilliniar,AF off] the FPS is even below of 30 and is 30 when everything is calm on the screen [when I was looking on "water hazzard" lvl, the FPS was 15!] and beside of this the game stutters a lot [but the stuttering thing is a bug if I'm not mistaken]. I know that this computer should have run this game much better,
but I don't know what is the problem [if there is].

Plz help me solve it thanks for the helpers

p.s 3DMARK 03 and 05 results pictures will be attached.

Re:Problem with 6600GT and HL2 - 2004/12/25 11:31 the pictures are too big so here are the test configuration and results:
3DMARK 05 unregistred version:
1024X768 AA : NONE Filtering Optimal HLSL VSPS Target 3_0 Fixed Framerate OFF

now the final result is : 2833 3DMarks

3DMARK03 unregistred version:
1024X768 AA : NONE Filtering Optimal Max Anisotropy 4 Vertex Shaders Optimal Repeat Test OFF Fixed Frame Rate OFF

now the final result is : 7605 3DMarks

Re:Problem with 6600GT and HL2 - 2004/12/25 13:49 I want you to follow these directions and to install these drivers. These are tweaked Forceware 67.03 drivers.

1. Download and install DriverCleaner 3.3. from http://www.drivercleaner.net/. Read the directions carefully and fully.

2. Have your new drivers downloaded and ready.

3. Uninstall your present drivers.

4. Restart Windows in Safe Mode (repeatedly press F8 during post until Boot menu, choose Safe Mode)

5. Run DriverCleaner and use the CabCleaner Tool on all selections. Then use the DriverCleaner Tool on the nVidia selection.

6. Restart Windows and install your new drivers.

7. When that's done restart Windows and defrag.

When your done, don't change any settings in NVIDIA Control Panel unless you need to change your resolution.

Try out your games and let us know whether or not all this helps.

Good Luck!

Re:Problem with 6600GT and HL2 - 2004/12/26 03:54 NFSU 2 is the same, 25 to 30 FPS, 3DMARK is better in 20 points maybe,
and in half life 2 is about 40 to 60 [ an improvment but not as i expected].

Re:Problem with 6600GT and HL2 - 2004/12/26 04:17 Make sure all your software is up to date - chipset drivers, SP2, DirectX 9.0c, sound card drivers, game updates, etc . . .

Other than that, I don't know what to say except to tell you to back up your card's bios and send it to us for a look/see

Here are instructions for baking up your bios.

Just zip it and attach it to your next post.

Re:Problem with 6600GT and HL2 - 2004/12/28 22:52 which driver to the chipset to download? I have Intel P4 3GHz and I don't know
which of the drivers to download.
I have soundmax integrated sound card, where should I get the driver from?
I have upgraded the game, SP2, DirectX 9c.
And I didn't really understood how to do the bios something that you told me to.

Re:Problem with 6600GT and HL2 - 2004/12/29 01:45 You probably have an Intel chipset but look in Control Panel->System->Hardware->Device Manager->System Devices and see if there's a bunch on Intel(R) entries there.

If there are, then download and install this

Re:Problem with 6600GT and HL2 - 2004/12/29 02:34 What about the SoundMax onboard driver?

and about how to do the bios thing u asked me 2

and most important, do I need to uninstall the previous driver of the chipset?

Re:Problem with 6600GT and HL2 - 2004/12/29 03:51 No, just install the chipset drivers over the one you have now.

And about backing up your bios - these are the instructions

Re:Problem with 6600GT and HL2 - 2005/01/03 01:45 No good. When I'm trying to do this I get:
"Load Error: No PMI get csdpmi*b.zip"

What to do?
