Yeah indeed, in the past it was somehow possible but now with these high-end chips it depends from batch to batch and the high performance GDDR3 chips are also going up and down in terms of overclocking potential... So it is just try and see hwo far it will go.

Can I flash it with whatever BIOS? I think so, bit not certain. And my BIOS does not have a Voltage tab, that's why I want to flash it and have more juice. Where can I measure the GPU voltage on the PCB? And what is the max GPU voltage? Thanks guys for all the help. Keep it up Mavke.

Just keep in mind that ATI cards are a bit more picky if the BIOS will just work fine. I don't know exactly why but that is just how it is... And you can use RaBiT to do some BIOS tweaks. How far the GPU voltage can go, I have no clue cause I didn't play with that...

Re:Radeon X1950 PRO, what is the best overclocking program? - 2007/06/20 17:35If your BIOS doesn't have a voltage tab, that means you have the newer revision PRO, most likely made by Sapphire. You need to do a hardware voltage modification, which is more dangerous and complicated.

Because there are two completely different revisions of Sapphire Radeon X1950 PRO's, the older one is reference, the newer one is based on the GT PCB. The GT doesn't have adjustable voltage regulators, and the BIOS's aren't interchangeable. I heard that if you flash the older BIOS to a newer card, you just get an insert the power cord error and it doesn't boot.

Could be but your message does stroke a bit, cause you state you get the insert power card error, but the card doesn't boot? Euh how can you then get that error, cause that is only displayed after booting... Does sound a bit strange to me...

Maybe it does boot, but only enough to get that error, maybe it can be displayed before booting the rest of the computer, I don't know. But all that really matters is that it doesn't work.

Well since you just know from others, that is one thing... Although I have flashed in the Radeon X1950 PRO one or two times a diffrent BIOS older and newer and it worked just fine, but not with these newer BIOS's. And you can indeed get this insert power cable but that is, at least in my case once you are in Windows, so nothing at bootup at all. But topic closed as neither of us has actually done it with the newer cards.
