Re:NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GXU BIOS, modified Ultra for GTX use! - 2007/05/15 15:49 Beany wrote:
Hi everyone, first post here! Will a default clocked BFG GTX be able to run this BIOS? Because when overclocking mine I can only get to 630/1930MHz stable, so how could my card handle this BIOS with 650/2000MHz clock speeds?
This BIOS should be fine your computer since your video card can reach 630MHz on the core.

Re:NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GXU BIOS, modified Ultra for GTX use! - 2007/05/15 15:53 This BIOS is set at 626/2000MHz, so if your BFG GTX can't do those speeds then this might not be the BIOS you would like to try as the memory timings are those of the GTX. However if you can share your original BIOS and which TimingSet they use we can check if it would make a difference...
My BIOS version is 60.80.06.00.01, and I've no idea what TimingSet it has... Is there a way to view it?

And you forget about his limitation on the memory clock? Cause he can only reach 1930MHz max with his GTX BIOS and since this GXU has the same GTX timings that won't change anything for his GTX. If you then flash to 2000MHz you risk on permanent damage to the memory chips and loose your warranty.

Yes, please download NiBiTor v3.4a and extract it all in one directory and execute the program. Then you use the Tools menu option and you first of all backup your original BIOS to a file. Once done attach it to this thread for us to check. Then you go to the Timing tab and use the Auto Select TimingSet to find out which memory timings are used and report back.

Re:NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GXU BIOS, modified Ultra for GTX use! - 2007/05/15 17:07 Hmm, I can't get NiBiTor to do that on Vista 64-bit. But it can open the BIOS and I can edit them. Do you think I should just change the memory speed to 1930MHz in the GXU BIOS and use it like that?

Re:NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GXU BIOS, modified Ultra for GTX use! - 2007/05/15 17:52 Yes, that is a good idea... So try that and see that you can maybe overclock more afterwards. However never flash your card if you don't have a backup! And no, it is not because we seem to have your BIOS on our downloads section that is is the same! That is why we always ask the original so we can verify. You can always use a bootable DOS media and nvFlash to backup the BIOS.

Well if it is a BFG then the max on the memory shouldn't be 1930MHz because stock, my BFG GeForce 8800 GTX was 2000MHz factory stock.

Yeah and that means you don't have the standard version as that of also from BFG comes as default clocks of 575/1800MHz like all reference GTX cards. But you will have the OC or OC2 edition which comes with the memory clock set at 2000MHz, and quite often has better memory chips than the default version.

Different BFG Versions...
- BFG GeForce 8800 GTX Edition (575/1800MHz)
- BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC Edition (575/2000MHz)
- BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC2 Edition (626/2000MHz)

Re:NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GXU BIOS, modified Ultra for GTX use! - 2007/05/15 19:12 Why can't I get above 2100MHz without pencil modification then... If it has better memory chips, I have the OC2 edition. But I can't break above 670/2100MHz, I got to 2300MHz but I had to do a pencil application.

Well at least you can beat 1930MHz... So you got better memory chips. By that it just means that you both have 1.1ns memory but the better batches of chips are used on the OC2 edition cards.
