NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GXU BIOS, modified Ultra for GTX use! - 2007/05/14 21:46 Detail, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 Ultra BIOS redesigned for the GeForce 8800GTX. Just use nvFlash to flash this updated BIOS. Just one note, it works for me but I take no repsonsiblity for any mistakes you make with this BIOS. I am running this BIOS and got about 10% performance increase on my GTX.

Re:NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GXU BIOS, modified Ultra for GTX use! - 2007/05/14 22:23 Thanks, sorry but since Guru3D doesn't allow our links I can't tolerate a link on the forums to them neither. But what I am after is what changes you made as this just looks like the Ultra BIOS with higher clock speeds, but nothing more? Or did you also set the GTX memory timings on it?

Re:NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GXU BIOS, modified Ultra for GTX use! - 2007/05/14 22:36 I set the memory timings, found and fixed other issues when using it on a GeForce 8800 GTX. It has better performance as well, at my stock BIOS speeds it outperforms a GTX set at 650/2000MHz.

Re:NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GXU BIOS, modified Ultra for GTX use! - 2007/05/15 02:00 Could we get a little more information about the memory timing change since from what I am told we are unable to push up the voltage on the cards due to the circuit. I guess more then anything I don't want to blow up a $600 dollar card.

Re:NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GXU BIOS, modified Ultra for GTX use! - 2007/05/15 02:08 Like I said, the memory timings on the GXU BIOS are made to be the same as the GeForce 8800 GTX memory timings. Your card will not blowup, I'm using my BIOS as we speak.

Indeed, the BIOS is just fine and adapted the Ultra version towards a more compatible version for the GeForce 8800 GTX. Meaning that it will show up and being an Ultra version, has the some memory timing values as the GTX and with slightly higher clocks than the Ultra version. In the end this will give slightly better performance due to the more appropriate memory timings and even do better due to the higher clock compared to the GTX... So that would be 576MHz for the default GTX against 626MHz of this adapted Ultra BIOS going by the GXU prefix.

Well not only that. My testers have done the following clocks and benchmarks with the results as shown. So as you can see, the rumored optimized Ultra BIOS must be true.

Test Run #1 - Feedback from User...
- GTX (625/2000MHz) - 3DMark06 : 10668
- GXU (625/2000MHz) - 3DMark06 : 10774

Test Run #2 - Feedback from User...
- GTX (576/1800MHz) - 3DMark06 : 10511
- GTX (657/2020MHz) - 3DMark06 : 11835
- GXU (612/2000MHz) - 3DMark06 : 11773
- GXU (638/2000MHz) - 3DMark06 : 12077

Might be, but what I am wondering is what the shader clock was in each test, cause I have done testing in the past with the GTX and by just changing the shader clock to a higher level I could get similar changes in the performance... And since the Ultra has the shader clock at 1458MHz while the GTX at only 1350MHz it can surely also explain the difference.

Benchmark Results - 4x AA/8x AF Settings...
>> Resolution : 1600x1200
- GTX (630/1960MHz - 1350MHz) - 3DMark06 : 7669
- GTX (630/1960MHz - 1450MHz) - 3DMark06 : 7782
>> Resolution : 1600x1200
- GTX (650/2000MHz - 1404MHz) - 3DMark06 : 7895
- GTX (650/2000MHz - 1512MHz) - 3DMark06 : 8010

With the default 3DMark06 setting this would have shown even a bigger increase as it is lower resolution and as well no anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering... That could mean a difference between 500-800 points on 3DMark06, which is in-line with your feedback as well...

Re:NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GXU BIOS, modified Ultra for GTX use! - 2007/05/15 15:26 Hi everyone, first post here! Will a default clocked BFG GTX be able to run this BIOS? Because when overclocking mine I can only get to 630/1930MHz stable, so how could my card handle this BIOS with 650/2000MHz clock speeds?

This BIOS is set at 626/2000MHz, so if your BFG GTX can't do those speeds then this might not be the BIOS you would like to try as the memory timings are those of the GTX. However if you can share your original BIOS and which TimingSet they use we can check if it would make a difference...
