Got new system, but crashes very often, need some help... - 2007/03/11 01:35 I've just bought a new PC and its not working. Every time I try to run a game or 3DMark06 it crashes, I would be truly greatful for your help. Had Vista 64-bit Home Premium installed but have now gone back to XP for I thought that it was Vista being buggy. I have updated all the drivers including the mainboard BIOS, thing is the company I bought it from who said they take their time testing and configuring PC before they ship them out, hasn't even set the BIOS up properly?

System Specifications...
- Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6700 Processor
- OCZ Technology 4GB 1100MHZ DDR2 Memory
- ASUS Striker Extreme nForce 680i Mainboard
- BFG GeForce 8800 GTX OC Edition (2x, SLI)
- Unknown 500GB SATA Hard Disk
- Liteon 20x DVD/CD Writer

Most of the settings are on auto? if anyone can help me out or knows where I can get some good tech support then I will owe you one I just wanna see this thing running games without shutting down. Please help...

Re:Got new system, but crashes very often, need some help... - 2007/03/11 02:06 How is it when the system is idle? Might want to find out what the temps are running at for those cards. Could be one is running hot and causing it to crash. Also check in the BIOS and see what the temps are on the processors. Once you find out how the temps are doing then I'd say it's time to move on to troubleshooting something else.

Re:Got new system, but crashes very often, need some help... - 2007/03/11 12:51 All temps running fine, not sure how to check the GPU temps? Apart from when I try to run graphics all is well, although I did try Windows Media Player to see if the visuals on there worked okay, which they did.

Re:Got new system, but crashes very often, need some help... - 2007/03/11 14:38 From what I know Vista is not ideal yet for a multi-GPU setup like two GeForce 8800 GTX cards and does crash sometimes. But with Windows XP it should work if all settings are set as they should. And that depends from setup to setup so you might need to check a bit yourself what certain things do in terms of stability.

Re:Got new system, but crashes very often, need some help... - 2007/03/11 18:51 are you overclocking the board ? if so drop everything to stock then try it . also you may wanna look into voltages especially in the cpu part and memory part . Asus voards have a bad habit of undervolting the cpu so i start there ...

Re:Got new system, but crashes very often, need some help... - 2007/03/11 19:19 No I'm not OCing but 95% of the BIOS settings are set to [AUTO] but to be honest I'm not sure which ones to set or what to

Re:Got new system, but crashes very often, need some help... - 2007/03/11 19:37 Hi,
have a look at your ram Timings in Bios. I got some OCZ Modules that only works with manual settings. For your`s it must be 5-6-6-15, 2T Timing.

Re:Got new system, but crashes very often, need some help... - 2007/03/11 23:20 Download and install "coretemp" then tell me all 4 cores temps.
Make sure your Ram voltage is at Default settings or at least 2v.

On a side note , there are major issues with quad core and the 680i mobo.
Evga are probably the only company at the moment offering free RMA / CROSS SHIPPING WORLD WIDE. Mainly for quad not going over 300fsb, the problem is fixed now with a new revision mobo.
Asus guys dont seem to be getting the support as said in the forums.Or Asus are turning there back on it.

Anyway feedback from above and let me know.
