I decided too...get the nForce 680i series mainboard... - 2006/12/31 03:06Well after reciving the Crucial memory, its 800MHz with 4-4-4-12 timings and good for 2.2V and now I am finding out my MSI 975X just does not like it to well. I get a reboot issue and it doesn't allow me to go above 400MHz FSB. I decdided not to go get me a GeForce 8800 GTS, but instead go with a new mainboard, the EVGA 680i first and only then get a new video card... Hopefully they might have a couple of mid rangers out, then we will see what the Crucial can do.

Re:I decided too...get the nForce 680i series mainboard... - 2006/12/31 10:05Mmm, strange, as I did run my ASUS P5W DH Deluxe, which is also powered by the Intel 975X chipset with Crucial memory, which where PC2-5300, but I ran these at PC2-6400 and even above. Currently I am again testing Crucial memory on the same mainboard but the PC2-8000... But might be MSI. Mmm EVGA 680i, that will be awesome. I am thinking about the ASUS Striker Extreme (680i), but I am waiting for the those to become available in Belgium...

Re:I decided too...get the nForce 680i series mainboard... - 2006/12/31 10:09Great idea in my opinion, some awesome tweaks in the 680i from EVGA. I see the Striker Extreme is one pricey board at +425 here it better be awesome for that money, but I await the reviews.

Well I don't know, the only thing I know is that Zio Systems has it at about $400, so if that would be translated to euro's it would be around €320 or so... So yes that is expensive, but what does the EVGA cost? Or the BFG version? I tend to go for ASUS cause they release far more BIOS updates and better support of drivers... Re:I decided too...get the nForce 680i series mainboard... - 2007/01/02 20:30Personally ASUS just plain sucks, sorry. The only way to get a ASUS board with all the options is to spend a ton of money and get the best one out there while other boards that are cheaper compete and or smoke it... The EVGA 680i runs for about $225. The two main issues I have is first the reboot issue, I need to power down the computer every time I reboot it and this board just won't push the memory. I can go tighter timings just not higher freqs. The Crucial is rated at 4-4-4-12 at 800MHz or 5-5-5-15 at 1000MHz. I can go to 400MHz FSB at 3-3-3-8 at 2.25V...

Re:I decided too...get the nForce 680i series mainboard... - 2007/01/02 20:57Nice review, lots of eye candy on the board by way of lighting and functional also. I've never heard the snap, crackle, pop that was mentioned while running SLI on my EVGA 680i and I seriously doubt anyone will buy a board this pricy and not want to run SLI. So its a turn off to see that in a review, is this issue across all nForce 680i or just the ASUS models? I guess further reviews to find out if anyone else has encountered this. Too bad its a nice looking board, and would definately add to a lit windowed case...over all esthetics.
And Raptor is right also I'm afraid, I personally have had a number of ASUS boards through my little shop and many had post issues, some no post at all, even one at store right out of the box, ASUS P5N32-SLI Deluxe and the WiFi Premium more recently both problematic high-end motherboards. And now report of their latest flagship with issues also... I went from Gigabyte to ASUS, I guess I be changing again maybe my backup get a new board soon also as it has hang while posting issues also a ASUS P5N32-SLI Deluxe, maybe its the Intel Pentium D840 EE processor, nawww!

Re:I decided too...get the nForce 680i series mainboard... - 2007/01/03 01:44Hi guys, I have the EVGA 680i board, not fired up just yet, waiting for the XFX XXX hopefully next week. Oh and a BIOS for ya Mavke! If you decide to go with the EVGA 680i be sure to read the forums. Couple of tips... You may require memory to light up the board so you can get into the BIOS and set the memory voltage to 2.1V, as the board seems to default from 1.8V, again not everyone as had this concern though.
And secondly, its caused some grief for a lot of customers is make sure to get the latest BIOS release P23. Again because of SATA issues, corruption and non boot. As expected though its a new board, new chip etc. Been their before with other boards.

Re:I decided too...get the nForce 680i series mainboard... - 2007/01/03 01:52Will do snout keep us posted, as for the memory running at 1.8V, I shouldn't have a worry there even though my memory is at 2.2V just as long as the board defaults to 1066MHz with 5-5-5-15 timings.
