Radeon X800 XL, what can I flash this to? - 2006/11/25 18:40 I've got a MSI Radeon X800 XL (VT2D256E), so featuring a Radeon X800 XL, 256MB memory, PCI Express, R430 core, 16 pixel pipelines, 400MHz stock GPU clock and 980MHz stock memory clock. I heard that the Radeon X800 XL's can be flashed to become other, better cards. If so, then what BIOS would you recommend for this card?

Re:Radeon X800 XL, what can I flash this to? - 2006/11/26 01:05 Nothing all its pipes are unlocked the only thing left is to set the clocks maybe a bit higher... So overclocking can be done, but that is it.

Re:Radeon X800 XL, what can I flash this to? - 2006/11/26 08:11 Hey, great! And that's the stock BIOS too! You want a dump of it?

Yeps that would be great. And what you should really try is overclocking the card and see how far you can get... And then maybe it can make it up to a Radeon X800 XT. But first we need to know how good it overclocks.

Re:Radeon X800 XL, what can I flash this to? - 2006/11/26 16:23 I can push it to about 420MHz core and 1000MHz memory clock stable enough to run Medieval 2: Total War for several hours without it crashing. I think I need a better GPU heatsink on there, though. Looking at the Zalman VF900-Cu.

Re:Radeon X800 XL, what can I flash this to? - 2006/11/27 09:11 That could be, cause your overclocking isn't really that good. But then again with all ATI cards you can never predict how good or bad they will overclock and only a minor amount of cards will go very high...

Re:Radeon X800 XL, what can I flash this to? - 2006/11/27 16:12 Okay, here's a BIOS dump. By the way, I goofed above. The real overclocking limits I'm seeing are 414/499MHz (GPU/mem) over the stock 400/980MHz. My brain must have been on autopilot to have witten 1000MHz memory clock like I did.

Yeah, well that is actually not really overclocking... Seems your card is quite limited. Overclocking I call when you can reach at least 25MHz on the core and 50MHz on the memory, if else it is just not worth it. I will check the BIOS.
