a lil Cooling mod @7900GX2 Card - 2006/11/25 01:03 Hey ,

i´ve done a lil cooling mod with the stock aircooler at the 7900gx2 , not much , only put CoolLaboratory´s liquid metal pro at the gpu and look , i can go 15mhz higher as before without artifacts ( i know , not much , but for that little work and that cheap method its good enough )
before max clock withhout artifacts 575core , now 590 ..
at the bga rams , i can´t put those , too much space between bga´s and the cooler so i let the stock thermal pads on those bgas , next week i think i finish my watercooler for the gx2 at work and then i will try again ,
tomorrow i will try to raise the voltage a bit and look how high i can go then with the gpu clock , but before

1. use CoolLaboratory´s Liquid Pro or Metal Pads for this "Mod" or use CuSil if you have it ( its more expensive and dangerous as LiquidPro , but much better )
2. don´t do this if you not know what you do
3. don´t do this if you not crazy enough to do this
4. don´t do this if you haven´t enough money to buy a new card if something goes wrong with that mode

now , look at the pictures , i know , i´m too crazy for this
i rebuild my old system for this test coz i tested the card before with this sys , so i would test it again to see what it brings again with that sys

here are the photos

gpu with a thin layer of liquid metal pro ( you can use the pads , easier , or use CuSil , a lot better WmK as Liquid Metal )

the testrun system , an amd athlon 64 x2 4200+ @ 2750mhz without a heatspreader , an msi k8n diamond plus , ocz 700w gamexstream , muskin xp4000 @ ddr500 and an zalman cnps9500cu

Re:a lil Cooling mod @7900GX2 Card - 2006/11/25 09:54 it haves a higher wmk as all those "99,9% pure silver" or other thermal pastes , its like the name , the pure metal , i use it since years for my cpu´s , for chipset´s and for other things and its great , you got every time better results as with a silicone thermal paste , try it and you see it , its worth to buy !

we have here in germany a shop named edel-grafikkarten.de , that use this thermal paste for his modded gfx cards ,

look here for informations:
http://www.coollaboratory.com/en/

thats the reason i use this , CuSil its much better but expensive and dangerous

Cusil haves 195 W/mK
Liquid Metal Pro 82 W/mK
Arctic Silver 5 have 9 W/mK

you see the difference
