Toasted CPU? - 2006/11/23 06:51 Well i think i may have made my processor a little roasty posty. it runs fine at stock speeds but when any amount of OC it seems to Lock up. temps ar e absolutly great. im thinking i gave a little to much voltage they other night(1.55) on my A64 4000+ san diego. ive tried re-setting my bios adn what not but no such luck... any uideas of what else it could be befor i send it's crud packing?

Update:tried uninstalling video drivers and cleaning stuff up with driver cleaner pro
Update:uninstalling A64 drivers
Update:Taking out Audigy 2 as maybe there was a conflict.. not the case.
Update: Re-flashing bios
Update:tryed using only 1 of my sticks of ram at once.
looking like ym cpu is dead... sad got it 2 weeks ago lol

Re:Toasted CPU? - 2006/11/23 18:10 it could be the mb or the psu . but in my experencies ( i been known to be wrong ) a cpu either works or it dont ,,,,

Re:Toasted CPU? - 2006/11/23 19:21 I'd say mobo chipset ,from my experience, try the cpu in another board, i've had that happen and the board turned out to be the culprit.....hope its just your board.
mobo or memory are usually the weaker links in system, and mobo has most places to fail, cpu maybe toughest i'm told.it has built in protections some you can override some you can't.way overvolting ?,my guess wouldn't even post, especially if temps are not an issue,

Re:Toasted CPU? - 2006/11/23 22:45 i think its not the cpu , i have give my cpu more voltage as you and the cpu still runs fine , i looked with some tools at some settings , my cpu is set to 63°C shutdown temp with this tool and i canīt change this , and its true , if i turn off my cpu cooler and my cpu runs at 63° , the pc freezes or shut down with a bluescreen .. so , check your mainboard , i have now my second msi k8n diamond plus , coz my old was damaged , i thought the same as you " fuck my cpu burned out " but it was the mainboard that fucked up .. the k8n have no cooler at the mosfets , so my mosfets burned out and killed my mobo , now i have again an k8n , but with little copper cooler at the mosfets ^^

try your cpu in another mainboard and look if it works there !

Re:Toasted CPU? - 2006/11/24 02:02 Well ive decioded im gonna sell my Video card and just go PCI-e. so If anyone is interested im selling a MSi 6800 Ultra AGP witha Zalman VF-7 Fatality cooler installed. i just they other day gave it a volt mod using nibitor and put it at 1.5volts instaid of the stock 1.4. oc's well and all and perfect working condidion. i have all the original cooling parts. let me know if ur interested anyone. and if ud prefer i can return the card to it's original state and id be willing to sell it without the Custom HSF for cheaper.
