Overclocking, flashing a Radeon 9250...possible? - 2006/11/09 02:58 Hi guys, I'm new here, but I'm a knowledgeable person when it comes to hardware components. But I've recently heard about something called overclocking or flashing a video card. I've got the basic info of what they both do thanks to a 5-page report on Wikipedia, but can someone help me exploit how you do this? What exactly you download, enter and change to actually do it and how to do this for an ATI Radeon 9250 256MB on PCI bus? Thanks for any replies.

My Radeon 9250 does not have a fan, only a heatsink, and have heard overclocking heats up components, so I have a few universal 80-mm fans that I can crudely attach to them if needed.

Doesn't make any sense as you will gain almost nothing in performance. Maybe 0.5 frame rate extra. Overclocking is something very useful when you have a decent mid-range or high-end card...

Will overclocking than do anything noticeable in performance wise? Even if I'm not able to on this card, could someone point me in the right direction of how to do it for future reference?

Re:Overclocking, flashing a Radeon 9250...possible? - 2006/11/09 14:58 Overclocking is plain and simple, you increase the core and memory clocks a bit. So by doing so the hardware will run faster to better performance. Currently the GeForce 8800 GTX runs standard at 575MHz but you can overclock is easily to 650MHz and then it performs quite a lot faster... You can overclock by using RivaTuner or PowerStrip programs.
