Question on overclocking my computer system?! - 2006/09/20 20:15 Well maybe a couple of questions, had upped the clocks to 3.6GHz from 3.2GHz and voltage from 1.350V to 1.425V. How much voltage is it safe to feed to my Pentium D 840 Extreme Edition processor? And the Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800MHz, how much voltage is safe to feed to it?

My GeForce 7950 GX2 run at 605MHz core 1440MHz memory, so I think its okay for now, the score is just over 9600 in 3DMark05 and 7200 in 3DMark06. I've tried to disable HyperThreading and just about every other setting to get this thing to open up. I guess this would be first attempt at quad core processing. Dual core with HyperThreading, so two physical cores and two logical cores?

I've read a bunch of reviews based on similar components, in example the ASUS P5N32-SLI Deluxe mainboard and the Intel D 840 EE processor. Some overclock fine, some not at all so I guess I landed somewhere in between them, just wondering if any one has ideas or suggestions Thanks in advance.

Re:Question on overclocking my computer system?! - 2006/09/20 20:25 Well, if you have low temp, under 55°C at full load, than about 1.5V is perfect.

Re:Question on overclocking my computer system?! - 2006/09/20 20:35 I have the Koolance Exos-2 unit which boasts 750 watts of cooling. Just cooling the CPU right now and Everest Ultimate sensor reporting both mainboard and CPU at 40°C, not much more under load, never see 50°C. So temps are never an issue. And how much voltage for the memory? Currently it is at 1.85V default, and had it set at 2.1V but I'm sure it can go higher. Also using the Koolance CPU 300 water block, mirror finish and some Arctic Silver 5, so I care about how it goes together.

Yeah, you can try at least 1.45V to 1.5V... Some are even giving more voltage but then you need some excellent cooling I believe. On the memory I think Corsair is giving warranty upto 2.2V for their DDR2 kits... However I am not sure.

Re:Question on overclocking my computer system?! - 2006/09/20 21:49 Thanks for the input here ,i haven't tried to 1.5 & beyond yet but i will now and gonna take the mem to 2.2 + also .what about other bios settings, any ideas, would be appreciated,

Mavke , i think i got duped with the bonus of getting back 2 7950 gx2 for 2 7900 gtx superclock, that i rma, though it is runnin and recognised as quad sli ,i'm not sure my board fully supported, didn't see in compatibility list only p5nd32 sli ,maybe has changed since ,i will check.

EDIT: i just checked the list and the p5n32 SLI SE is there on the list but not the p5n32 sli Delux ,so i guess i'm wasting my time until i get a compatible mobo' and maybe a conroe, for the 7950 gx2 and go back to 512 6800 ultra in this system or something else other than quad sli? probably get better performance with 1 card, maybe try that also.

Re:Question on overclocking my computer system?! - 2006/09/20 22:02 The problem is not the motherboard, is the driver that need to be tweaked for it... Between one gx2, it use like, I think, 45x pci-e Lanes, so it's what we could call, SLI of SLI lol.. It's like if you would put 4x PCI-E card on the Quad-SLI royal.. it will not run better than 2 cards, as they are fully supported.

Sell one GX2, and get a x6800 , you would score like about 9000pts in 3dmark 2006 at stock speed (CPU)

Re:Question on overclocking my computer system?! - 2006/09/20 22:15 Yeah christ getting kentsfield when available and mobo and psu and just as well get 1ghz + memory also ,may as well build new rig again lol
then GX2 run correctly ? 30+ " LCD also for high resolutions,

Re:Question on overclocking my computer system?! - 2006/09/20 22:20 Yea, Quad will help alot on high resolution, but it's not in all games... Only F.E.A.R. likes that, when you take a look on those benchmark with quad-SLI...

Re:Question on overclocking my computer system?! - 2006/09/20 22:50 yes ,for now limited sources of content capable of utilizing high res ,but more high resolution content will continue to expand maybe to HD soon enough, otherwise there won't be much use for setups like Quadroplex other than its intended professional applications

don't think i'll ever game on a 300 " LCD yeah reading about it didn't see a picture though 4600 x 2800 somthing like that ridiculas resolutions.
