OC bios for PowerColor x1600pro 512MB AGP - 2006/09/08 03:02 Mavke,

I read your review about ATI PowerColor x1600pro 512MB AGP. I have the same VGA card.

Inside you explain about OC bios provided by TUL Corporation:
http://www.mvktech.net/images/reviews/pcx16proagp/pc-x16agp-bg-09.jpg

But, I can't find it on MVKtech.net ati bios download section.

My package doesn't come with the OC bios. I asked distributor in my area without reply .

I hope you can help me, since I am curious to know what they do on the OC bios.

Regards,
Arto.

Re:OC bios for PowerColor x1600pro 512MB AGP - 2006/09/08 05:43 considering the x1600 pro agp ( all x1600 pro's period can only do 610 - 612 max on the core and between 925-990 max mem this greatly depends on cooling on them and on the rialto bridge chip ( yes that lil bugger gets HOT ( i know i owned a sapphire x1600pro agp ) ) the only difference is that the oc bios has a higher clock speed ( and morethen likly a lil looser timing then the intail release ( sapphire started doin this as well Again how i know because i updated to the newest bios before i dropped my card ) the only way to break the Core clocks limit of 610 you need to do a Volt mod ( if you can cool the card good enough them things love the juice and will overclock real good ) i topped mine out at 735 core speed with 1.74 volts on air @ 55c full load ( again i used a amd xp hsf on it as well ) .....

Re:OC bios for PowerColor x1600pro 512MB AGP - 2006/09/08 08:41 Thanks Raptor,

Yes, I read your review about your Sapphire, and I feel sorry about your card.

But, PowerColor is different from Sapphire. My GPU only max 580.50MHz and Memory max 468MHz (with ATITool v25 beta pre16). The stock Vgpu is 1.29v, and Vmem is 2.03v. The resistance on SMD resistor for pencil mod is very low, only 71ohm for Vgpu, and 682ohm for Vmem. The Vmod looks like a bit difficult and risky for my PowerColor. Also, if Vmod increase VGA card power consumption, I rather not do it, since I am using small form factor with only 220w PSU. I better save power for 3.06GHz CPU (next week on my hand if nothing wrong ).

So, if memory timing from oc bios can make my PowerColor run faster (not in MHz, but in real application), this is best I can do it on my card.

Regards,
Arto.

Re:OC bios for PowerColor x1600pro 512MB AGP - 2006/09/08 14:57 i didnt use ati tool it limited my clocks as well . i used rivatuner with the clock test disabled ... ati cards are tempramental on those mem adjustments ...

Re:OC bios for PowerColor x1600pro 512MB AGP - 2006/09/08 15:10 just to add i would seriously consider on getting a bigger power supply for your comp. at least a 450 watt min.....

Re:OC bios for PowerColor x1600pro 512MB AGP - 2006/09/10 11:13 I love to do it too. But my computer case is a small form factor case or shoe-box case. It limited my choice (or maybe no choice) for another power supply. So I must live with it for another couple of years (my computer is 3 years old already, but I don't think I need to change it right now).

Regards,
Arto.
