Re:Need some advice for processor choice - 2006/08/19 09:16with the performance ,that intel has brought to the table with the new core duo accross the board ,i'm surprised to see someone still opting to build a new rig based on anything else. for price to performance and to kick any athlon ass ,literally, the core duo E6600 or E6700 ,are now the processor of choice,IMO , though you may choose your consience .,if you haven't read some of the reviews ,you should!!

Re:Need some advice for processor choice - 2006/08/19 11:08are you building a new system or upgrading a s939 system? if its new, i agree with Cominferya, get a core 2 duo. even the lowest E6300 will be faster than most athlon X2s. if you are upgrading then just get any of the Toledo X2 processors because of the 2x 1MB cache. i'd hurry before they are all gone

Re:Need some advice for processor choice - 2006/08/19 11:33Thanks for the advice and i'm upgrading my rig.(only processor)
There are here none Toledo in the shop's in my neighbourhood and i'll think i'm going for the manchester 4200+ and next year maybe for the X6800 Duo or other processor with new memory and motherboard.

Re:Need some advice for processor choice - 2006/08/19 12:14Also bear in mind this last quarter that intel are now set to release the quad processer based on x4 6700s.
Im watching with interest too as i was about to purchase the x6800 @ £ 700 in the uk - but looking at the 6700 current prices it might be worth the wait for the quad.

Re:Need some advice for processor choice - 2006/08/19 17:13Id defitly go for the X2 4400+ as it shares most of the same qualities as the 4800. burt this is my opinion. but like the toehrs said the core duo would be ur best choice.

Re:Need some advice for processor choice - 2006/08/19 18:20The 4400+ mem express was out of stock ,i guess around $225.oo , the 4600+ was available @$279.00 not bad
the core E6300 @$249 Msi P965 NEOF @129 1 gig corsair value @120 =499 for a system that will smoke my 7000.00 quad sli rig
so for around another 200 bucks you are in to an extreme system that should shake the very core ,(pardon the pun)of any athlon including the fabled FX.Lol.
and as was stated, if your into extreme the Kentsfield quad core is slated for last quarter this year ,AMD better watchout!!
EDIT; check this out, and compare ,don't forget ocing potential. QUOTE:Core 2 Duo is overclocked, it provides downright unstoppable performance. Our fairly “low-end” Core 2 Duo processors wallop the high-end Athlon64 FX-62 processor (we also tested against an overclocked FX-62, which the E6400 was also able to beat) in every major test.unquote http://www.gamepc.com/labs/view_content.asp?id=c2le&page=1&cookie%5Ftest=1

The E6300, is similar to the athlon X2 4200+, on almost all benchmark.
If you have a 939 mainboard, you should get an athlon X2, like I did. If it's for a new system, go with the Core 2 Duo.
