New motherboard, what to go for...some thoughts? - 2006/06/25 04:18 I had a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum die on me a few weeks back and can't decide what to get next. I don't really want to get the same board again... Don't get me wrong it was a great board but just didn't like a few things like how two of the SATA ports were way off by the CPU, how the AGP slot was so close and can't run more than two memory sticks in it.

So was hoping to get something else, but its very hard being that the Neo2 looks like the best S939 board with an AGP slot. So here is what I'm looking for a Socket 939 board with and AGP slot (don't try to convince me or say anything about anything else) I was considering this board from EPoX EP-9NDA3+, but looks like it has some weird memory timing problem. So any suggestions on a new board will be greatly appreciated.

Re:New motherboard, what to go for...some thoughts? - 2006/06/25 04:27 I would say the DFI nF3 Ultra D, you can't get a better S939 mainboard. I got the DFI nF3 250GB (S754) And it is fast...

Re:New motherboard, what to go for...some thoughts? - 2006/06/25 04:56 No offence but those are two completely seperate boards, its not just a different socket. They have totally different workings. But thanks I'll look into that board.

Re:New motherboard, what to go for...some thoughts? - 2006/06/25 07:28 The only difference is the S939 has support for dual channel and four ram slots. But the same BIOS configuration and board layout. I should have mentioned get the LANParty series.

Re:New motherboard, what to go for...some thoughts? - 2006/06/25 11:19 Wow that DFI really is a nice looking and performing board. Could you please tell me the diff between these two pictures...

I like the lower one better because of the layout and closer two SATA ports, they both have same name. What is defferent? They both carry the same name but I don't know why they look different. I really do prefer the one without the shipset fan...the layout is far more superior.

Re:New motherboard, what to go for...some thoughts? - 2006/06/25 13:23 I have the S754 version of the DFI LANParty UT 250 nF3 board and I can tel you this, you don't get a better socket 754 board. Overclocking a 3000+ to 2600MHz is no problem if you have the Venice core. Get it now, prices are cheap as well...

Re:New motherboard, what to go for...some thoughts? - 2006/06/25 13:23 I think a good bet would be to find a board with the new nForce 5 series chipset. But i guess it depends on what kind of hardware you want to put on the board. The nForce 590 has power switches on the board. So you can shut it of and on when its not in a chassis. Really cool for enthusiasts.

Re:New motherboard, what to go for...some thoughts? - 2006/06/25 13:38 May I remind you all that what is needed is a S939 mainboard with AGP... So no S754, no PCI Express! So can you stick to that as all the input provide is quite beside the point.

Re:New motherboard, what to go for...some thoughts? - 2006/06/25 13:45 Guys I think you're getting carried away here. He needs a socket 939 motherboard, not S754 and the nF5 is PCI Express. I suggest getting just a cheap(er) replacement motherboard. But if you really want a DFI motherboard you should be looking at the DFI nF3 Ultra-D, assuming you can find stock for it...

I'm not positive but I think the top one is not a LANParty motherboard and the bottom one is. Feel free to correct me... Also I think there would be a chipset fan on the motherboard, I think that picture is from an expo. The retail product should have a heatsink.
