What about SLI on Intel and ATI based mainboards? - 2006/05/02 10:35 When the SLI technology was first announced to the world, NVIDIA’s policy regarding the support of this technology implemented in the third-party chipsets was not so severe. The first demo systems with SLI support were built on one of Intel’s server chipsets, and some time ago you could even find a photograph with an ATI based mainboard running two graphics cards in SLI mode on NVIDIA’s web-site. A lot has changed since then, and NVIDIA has got full control over the SLI technology.

Re:What about SLI on Intel and ATI based mainboards? - 2006/05/02 10:38 Does anyone know where to find some more info on the SLI patches and so on? I would like to know more about the Intel 975X chipset and ATI CrossFire chipset and how to patch the drivers to allow SLI to work on those. So who can provide some input? Some details, information? The patches themselves? Thanks!

Re:What about SLI on Intel and ATI based mainboards? - 2006/05/02 16:46 I read about this too. Very interesting stuff but looking at the feedback from other forums it seems that there is a very low success rate and you need to use old NVIDIA drivers (77.xx). Over at NGOHQ they had used the ASRock-ULi1697 SLI patch as a starting point for their own SLI patch. Heres an insert...

A while back ASRock published a SLI enabling patch for their ULi chipset based motherboards that have two PCI Express slots. Various rumors suggested that the patch would also function under other chipsets as well, and allow users with other chipsets to use SLI on their non-SLI motherboards. Unfortunately the original version of the patch installs only on ULi1695/7 chipsets, you couldn’t use it if you didn’t have a motherboard with that particular chipset.

We’ve managed to rip the installer and to create a modified version of the SLI patch that allows you to use it with every motherboard. We couldn’t do in-depth testing on other chipsets, but if the rumors are true then it should definitely work. Feel free to use it at your own risk, and please post the results in our forums. Remember, this is a modified version and is not supported by ASRock, ULi or NVIDIA. But it seems now that thread has been closed down by NVIDIA...

Re:What about SLI on Intel and ATI based mainboards? - 2006/05/03 00:14 Any other details? Cause I had a chat with the team of NGOHQ and they couldn't confirm that this would work fine for an Intel 975X chipset to get SLI working... Yeah I am trying to get an Intel Conroe processor and would like to link it up in SLI with some GeForce 7900 series cards and as well use some Radeon X1900 series cards in CrossFire.

Thanks! I actually checked that out before posting this thread as I wanted to get all details on how you could enable it to work in SLI on CrossFire chipsets and 975X chipsets. So I just want as much details as possible what has been done with the drivers. Which modifications and so on...
