7800GTX BIOS Voltage Adjustment, Flashing & Copying - 2006/04/13 18:39 Hi,

Forgive me if my questions are simple, but I have never fiddled in Graphic Card BIOS before and have restricted myself to Coolbits or Riva Tuner for overclcoking my 7800GTX cards.

I have however reached an early limit on Riva Tuner overclock on my cards at 590/1.8Hz and now that I have watercooled both cards I wanted to push this further and believe I need to therefore increase the card voltage in order to further increase clock speeds.

I am however struggling with the Guides on NiBiTor and how to use this to change voltage settings and overclock levels, so need some basic advice.

1. If I download and run NiBiTor will I be able to check, without amending, the voltage and clock speeds currently set in BIOS (as these are factory OC'd cards)?
2. How do I back-up the existing BIOS on my two cards, can this be done whilst in SLI?
3. How do I amend settings in NiBiTor and when I have done this do I then have to flash BIOS and again how do you flash BIOS on two cards (one at a time or both in SLI)??

My rig is: A8N32 SLI-Deluxe, FX57 @3.1Ghz (280 x 11), 2Gb 3500LLPRO @DDR475, 2 x XFX 7800GTX512 XXX Extreme OC'd @590/1.8Ghz, PCP&C1Kw Quad SLI.
Cooling: STORM Rev2 CPU Block, MCW60 x 2 VGA Blocks, PA120.3 Rad (3 x 120mm Panflo), DD5 Pump.

Can anyone help and walk me through the steps I need to take?

Thanks in advance

Re:7800GTX BIOS Voltage Adjustment, Flashing & Copying - 2006/04/13 19:32 First just backup the BIOS of both cards, with NiBiTor this is as easy as can be. Just use the Tools item to Read the BIOS to a file. Do that for both cards and supply us the BIOS. Just zip both BIOS's, give it a unique name and attach the file on this thread.

Re:7800GTX BIOS Voltage Adjustment, Flashing & Copying - 2006/04/13 20:37 Mavke,

Which version of NiBiTor should I use, as I see one of teh top downloads listed on left is v2.6, is thsi the right one?

Also when I load this and "Read the BIOS" will I see two cards listed, or do I need to unplug one and do each separately?

Thanks

Re:7800GTX BIOS Voltage Adjustment, Flashing & Copying - 2006/04/15 17:48 Mavke,

Sorry should have tried it first, as it was so simple!

Attached is the zipfile with BIOS from both cards - they seem identical.

Any advice from here would be great!

Re:7800GTX BIOS Voltage Adjustment, Flashing & Copying - 2006/04/16 10:09 Just one thing I would like to know on top is which brand are these GeForce 7800 GTX from? Cause that is something you haven't yet provided as information and which is quite vital...

Re:7800GTX BIOS Voltage Adjustment, Flashing & Copying - 2006/04/17 16:56 Mavke,

It is hidden in the "My Rig".

They are XFX cards and are the XXX Extreme versions, so are factory overclcocked to a core clock frequency of 580Mhz with memory clock frequency at 1.73Ghz (can't remember what teh standard GeForce 7800GTX 512's are though.

The issue I am having is that I'd like to push the Core Clock and I assume Memory Clock figures higher, but even at 590/1.75 I get crashes in games, but the Coolbits optimum sets them to 598.1.80, so I ssume they can be further overclocked somehow!?

Thanks

Re:7800GTX BIOS Voltage Adjustment, Flashing & Copying - 2006/04/25 14:22 Mavke,

Have you had a chance to look at the BIOS files I attached to thread, as I have watercool rig all set-up now and wanted to know if and how I can adjust BIOS to squeeze more out of these XFX 7800GTX 512Mb XXX Extreme cards??

Anything will help, as I have FX60 processor OC'd to a tad under 3.1Ghz (280 x 11) and new Corsair XMS4400PRO memory running at 1:1 DDR560 (3-4-4-8), but still even with cool water I can't get the two XFX cards above Core Clock 588/590 and Mem Clock 1.75Ghz, as I keep getting crashes in games at these settings (but as soon as I take of Riva OC and go back to XFX OC of 580/1.73 then all is fine)!

Thanks
