HIS Radeon X800 GTO... - 2006/01/30 09:21 Beware this card, it's great as a graphics card but has a really annoying clicking noise when the fan speed is set to anything less than 100%. Requests for help from both HIS and Arctic Cooling receive no response. Nice card lousy support service.

Re:HIS Radeon X800 GTO... - 2006/01/30 09:37 Funny of you to mention this as we have the same card, we actually have received it and we haven't noticed this clicking noise... Are others have the same issue? Or are you the only one? I just would like to know as we have no such issue... I also add a link to our review of this card...

Re:HIS Radeon X800 GTO... - 2006/01/30 09:40 Tried three cards and they all had the same problem. Guy on the XYZ forums put me wise to a problem with the Arctic Cooling device, seems they have updated it quite recently to allegedly sort out the problem with the PCB. The clicking is only there when the iTurbo software is used to set fan speed at less than 100%.

Re:HIS Radeon X800 GTO... - 2006/01/30 10:18 Okay, thanks for the great info. So it is rather a compatibility issue between the GTO PCB and the Arctic Cooling device. So normally on the newer cards this should be fixed as they sorted the problem out?

Re:HIS Radeon X800 GTO... - 2006/01/30 10:40 You have put your finger on what confuses me. I am assured that the PCB problem is on the Arctic Cooler rather than the ATI card but this does beg the question as to whether these cooling devices have a PCB on them!

To be honest what really annoys me is the complete lack of support from either HIS or Arctic Cooling, customer care I think not! I plan to go and buy the new Rev 2 version of the cooler as it may have the fix, but fitting it will invalidate the warranty on the card, a nice catch situation if ever there was one.

Re:HIS Radeon X800 GTO... - 2006/01/30 11:02 Wel the Arctic Cooling doesn't have a PCB, but I meant that the PCB of the HIS/ATI card might have some interoperability issues with the Arctic Cooling fan at speeds less than full speed.

Re:HIS Radeon X800 GTO... - 2006/01/30 12:30 No PCB on the cooler does suggest what you say, I guess I still go ahead and replace the cooler and see if that helps. I wish HIS would come out of the woodpile and give some advice.

Re:HIS Radeon X800 GTO... - 2006/02/01 11:25 Okay, well keep us informed... Cause if needed we can see with HIS and see what they can do or say.

Re:HIS Radeon X800 GTO... - 2006/02/01 12:04 Thanks I am going to phone HIS now the Chinese New Year is over and see if that produces any answers, if not I will let you know.

Re:HIS Radeon X800 GTO... - 2006/02/02 11:25 Incidentally the sound can be heard at this link, it's the one in the background that sounds like one of those insects rubbing their back legs together:-
