What to do with ATI Radeon X850 PRO 256MB? - 2006/01/12 09:08 Hey guys my name is Rafael I just got my video card and I would like to know if I can do anything to my video card to make it run better... I was just playing fear the demo and some guys were talking about overclocking the video card and also about modding the pipeline any information that can be useful for me. Thanks.

Re:What to do with ATI Radeon X850 PRO 256MB? - 2006/01/12 09:12 When posting please post in just the ATI area for ATI questions please, I have deleted the other thread. But here is what I say... On many cards there are certain things that you can do (to certain cards bear in mind), these include things such as unlocking extra pixel pipelines and vertical shaders and of course overclocking the cards themselves.

What alot of members have done previously when overclocking is used a benchmarking program to ascertain whether the higher clocks are producing artifacts or errors on the screen. Now the easiest thing to do first is to download RivaTuner/PowerStrip (but with RivaTuner you have to disable the iternal clock test, I will tell you how dont worry) and you use these programs to do this...
  1. Up the core slowly by 5-10MHz each time, run 3DMark05 test for artifacts if there are none repeat this step, if there are goto 2.

  2. Reduce core by 5MHz for heat accumulation over time and leave it high.

  3. Up memory by 10MHz each time, run 3DMark test for artifacts if there are none, repeat this step, if there are goto step 4.

  4. 4. Drop memory speed by 5MHz (again for heat).

  5. Take values from step 2 and step 4 and mod the BIOS with them and reflash.

Now those speeds are set in stone and should see you get a better performing card as a result. We can go through more as and when you are ready.

Re:What to do with ATI Radeon X850 PRO 256MB? - 2006/01/13 00:33 Well first of all thanks for your help. Okay, well I guess we can get start on the steps. Were can I download the RivaTuner/PowerStrip and then disable the internal clock test... Also I dont know if the ATITool would help in any of this. I downloaded last night to see if I can do anything but it seens to be hard to use...

Re:What to do with ATI Radeon X850 PRO 256MB? - 2006/01/13 16:52 Well a good way to find the programs is just using Google and search for them... That is what I do to find a program.

Re:What to do with ATI Radeon X850 PRO 256MB? - 2006/01/13 21:02 Okay, I got both of them... RivaTuner/PowerStrip now we can get started. Hey sorry if I take some time but am not that good with PC's but will do my best... Okay now how I disable the internal clock test from the RivaTuner program?

Is it true that if you overclock the video card too much it could burn out... You think if that happens my 36 month warranty won't cover it? Well I got the programs. But before I had ATITool which I think is for overclocking to my default is 500/1000MHz for core and memory I tried the steps and I have it 519/1038MHz. Didnt had any artifacts so you think I should keep making it more as long I don't get any artifacts for the heat?

Re:What to do with ATI Radeon X850 PRO 256MB? - 2006/01/14 16:37 Yeps you can normaly go higher. As you know the PE runs at 540/1080MHz so your card might be able to attain those speeds and maybe even higher.

Re:What to do with ATI Radeon X850 PRO 256MB? - 2006/01/15 05:22 ok will be working on that........so thats about it in overclocking so u think there is no problem if i didn't use the RivaTuner/PowerStrip cuz.. i used the ATITOOL. Well i guess if thats about it what can we do next..

Re:What to do with ATI Radeon X850 PRO 256MB? - 2006/01/15 22:51 ..Hey am having an other problem now i have it set 540.00/540.00 and am geting an error but is not for heat... and sometimes my creen goes black is weird i think is something Artifacts detected after 02:31.40. 5722 pixels don't match. and i had it Scan for Artifacts started... Core: 540.00 Mhz Memory: 540.00 Mhz not sure sure wat it is but am puting it lower now..

Re:What to do with ATI Radeon X850 PRO 256MB? - 2006/01/15 23:13 Well that behavior is actually that you card is clocked to high which might not be a heat problem but a voltage problem. What kind of PSU do you have and does your Radeon X850 XT come with an extra molex to provide it extra power? If so what is Amps on the 12V rail of your PSU? For the moment clock you card lower till we have these details to check what might be the issue.
