Radeon X1900 XTX to score over 11K? - 2006/01/06 00:56 We came to know that the Radeon X1900 XTX (R580) will officially be clocked at 650MHz core and 1550MHz for the memory while the Radeon X1900 XT will be officially clocked at 625/1450MHz. The reason for the lower memory clocks for Radeon X1900 XT is unclear yet since the Radeon X1800 XT is already clocked at 1.5GHz. It is also confirmed that R580 has 16 pipelines and 48 shader processors.

Re:Radeon X1900 XTX to score over 11K? - 2006/01/06 00:57 More interestingly, we heard faintly that an early sample of Radeon X1900 XTX clocked at 500MHz scored 10.2K in 3DMark05 so we can safely presume that the official Radeon X1900 XTX will score over 11K. We can expect availability at launch on 24th January and retailers are expected to have stocks a few days before the launch.

However, NVIDIA won't just allow ATI to steal the performance crown from them so G71 will be their answer to R580 and it seems NVIDIA is confident that G71 will beat R580. All it takes is a highly clocked, 32 pipes G71 to stop R580.

Re:Radeon X1900 XTX to score over 11K? - 2006/01/16 05:37 Yes, but Is it 11K with an Athlon FX-60? It will probably be a great performer, and I would buy it if I had the money, I could really use that hardware accelerated encoding. If only the G71 had an Avivo type thing, sure they have PureVideo but what does it do?

Well that is where you custom build your machine to do what you need it to do. If you need the video encoding of the ATI over shear raw power of NVIDIA then go ATI. Or is playing games or bragging rights more your thing...
