Re:Moded 59xx bios's - 2004/09/14 10:53thanks for the explications
without modding my memory run at 800 Mhz with an AOPen bios the memory run up to 930 Mhz
I compare the original bios with the AOPen and the timing are the same
If I understand your post the original timing were agressive and if I relax them with 1 or 2 point I could overclock the memory Higher ?
the original timing were A=68 B=17 C=19 D=11 E=6 F=6

The bios's are not same otherwise you would not get such diff's in overclocking levels !!
You are obviously comparing values and trying to change latencies/timings with OmniExtremeEditFX utility. Don't understand why I post a 59xx bios modding guide that indicates all latencies and timings than can be changed, when some people appear to be more satisfied with limited range of OmniEdit changes ???
And if you read my guide, you would have understood that the OmniEditor must be reading at least one of the timings you show as wrong value for bios -----> which it is of course, because it is reading, and most probably writing, wrong place in bios ??
EDIT:
And to make it easier for you and anybody else trying to go the same route for modifying their bios, the 68 should be a 3 for a standard XT bios and 67 for all higher card bios's. But for better performance with good overclocking with all bios's you need to make it 64 as stated in my guide !
But don't do any of this with current version 1.5 of OmniExtremeEditFX utility !!!

As stated it in the EDIT part of my post to Walter, your program read 68 from his XT bios because it is looking in wrong place. And unfortunately any changes made were being saved back to same wrong place in bios ?
I don't actually use your program, but if it helps you any in this instance, the program is wrongly reading the eight latency values starting at offset address F3C4 instead of F37C !!!!
That one was easy for me to spot, since 68 isn't used for any timings. However since I dont use your program, and therefore have done no trials, I have no idea if other values are being read from or written to correct places with every bios ?

Re:Moded 59xx bios's - 2004/09/15 04:31Jimmor you know very much about nvidia BIOSes, why don't you play around with the Editor and report some bugs you find?
You can see everything that is changed live in the HexWindow, so you don't need to save / reopen a BIOS to compare with the original...
I think I understand what you say about the location of the timing A table. On FX5900 BIOS there is a table which contains values 67 (spoken in dec), if you lower this you get more performance. I thought on FX5900XT its the same with using value 68...

Re:Moded 59xx bios's - 2004/09/15 05:45Hey guys, that is what I would like to see as well that a person who knows the nVidia BIOS's well would help extremetheme to get as much bugs fixed as possible. So jimmor would you be willing to do so? Already I would like to thank you both for the great support!

Re:Moded 59xx bios's - 2004/11/05 19:01One question... do you have to reinstall the nVidia drivers after you flash the cards BIOS? I ask because i recently flashed my Leadtek 5900XT(A350XT-TDH) with a modded leadtek 5900XT bios, i used nvflash v4.41 and flashed with success. As i got back into windows, i noticed my speeds were still the same(390/700) instead of the newer clocks(450/850), something i missed here? I did some searching around and found that it was mentioned about having to reinstall the drivers for the newer clocks to take, is that true? I had flashed a Gainward 5900nU to a 5950U with a gainward bios months ago, still works perfect to this day... i just don't remember having to reinstall the drivers for it. Of course its been a good whiles and don't remember if i had to or not.
Ps- To make flashing a card quicker, i had used a BATCH file with all the commands to do all the work instead of typeing everything out. If you wanted to try different BIOSes, all you had to do was edit the batch file with the name of the ROM only.
EDIT: YES... you have to reinstall your drivers for the newer clocks to set... so glad i tried it, i now have 450/850 trouble free clocks from 390/700. I got a 900+ point increase on 3dmarks01 from 13.5k with a 3200+(OC'd 2500+).

You only have to reinstall nvidia drivers, when you flash with different type of bios !
So if you change from a 5900XT to a 5900nu, 5900u or 5950u, then during bootup you would be forced to reinstall the driver. And, it can also be required if you flash with a bios having different/extra features. But if you flash with a bios which is only a modded version of the last installed version, then you will not be asked to reinstall drivers.
Your problem above, where speeds were being capped at 390/700 instead of the bios settings of 450/850 was probably due to something like coolbits or Rivatuner settings overriding the bios settings. I have repeatedly cautioned people that it is important to disable, or deselect, and overclocking options of coolbits or rivatuner, when flashing with modded bios's !!

BigE4u,
Have you tried overclocking with the new modded Leadtek 5900XT bios ??
The speeds of 450/850 it was set at is not to be taken as a limitation of the bios or your card. For that bios, it is only a reasonably safe level to start from !
Although all cards are different, experience has shown that Leadtek 5900XT(A350XT-TDH) cards are very good overclockers. Where people have achieved speeds of 500/900 or better ??

I didn't know Coolbits had to be disabled... no harm done. I uninstalled then reinstalled drivers and all is well, thanks for the heads up for next time. No i haven't OC'd yet, i figure i'll give it a few days to settle in with the 450/850 clocks and OC at a later time if i don't see any problems.... thanks again!
