Radeon 9600 XT with 8 pipes? - 2005/10/22 01:06 Hey guys, I just got a Sapphire Radeon 9600 XT with 4 pipes and 256MB 128-bit and was wondering if there is a way to open the other 4 pipes. It's the R360 core so I don't see why not unless they are laser cut. Anyone wanna help me out here.

Right now stock is 500/300MHz and I'm at 530/315MHz so not to shaby for a card that usually defualts at much less. Anyone know if the 4 other sets of pipes can be opened on this R360 core?

Re:Radeon 9600 XT with 8 pipes? - 2005/10/22 03:01 Wow no comments? I'm not a big fan of RivaTuner cause all the crap that's in it that messes up everything but if it can do it iI'l try it. What the heck... Either the R360 core, Radeon 9600 XT can do it or it can't someone has to know?

Re:Radeon 9600 XT with 8 pipes? - 2005/10/22 04:01 I don't think they can be unlocked. I don't even think their is any masked on them... RivaTuner is the only one to tell ya yay or nay...

Re:Radeon 9600 XT with 8 pipes? - 2005/10/22 15:18 Yeah RivaTuner won't even give me the driver options cause I'm using the Catalyst 5.10's and under poweruser there is only one tab for ATI and it don't show squat. Guess I could go back to 5.9's and try. I mean has anyone seen the 4 pipe R360 core Radeon 9600 XT's be able to unlock the other 4 pipes.

Re:Radeon 9600 XT with 8 pipes? - 2005/10/22 16:56 I just want to set something right... Is it the RV360 core or the R360 core on your Radeon 9600 XT? Cause the RV360 is the GPU used to power the Radeon 9600 XT and the R360 is the GPU to power the Radeon 9800 XT. You see why I am confused? As you talk about the R360... So can you check and let us know. Sounds every interesting.

The Radeon 9600 XT (RV360) has got only 4 pipelines whereas the Radeon 9800 XT (R360) has gotten 8 pipelines... So if you got the Radeon 9600 XT (RV360) then you can forget about unlocking anything, cause it just hasn't got anything to unlock. But if you really have a R360 core on a Radeon 900 XT labelled card then you might turn it into a Radeon 9800 XT, but that would be strange as I never see that for any Radeon 9600 XT labelled card.

Re:Radeon 9600 XT with 8 pipes? - 2005/10/22 17:36 You are correct it is the RV core, thank you for clarifying that. I've never had a Radeon 9600 XT, I got it for the girlfriend's system. I'm pretty disappointed right now in its performance. Games are pretty jumpy. I changed AGP Aperture from 256MB to 128MB and it's still the same.

System Specs...
- AMD 3200+ Clawhammer (CG core) 1MB L2
- ASUS K8NE Deluxe Mainboard
- 1GB OCZ PC4800 Platinum
The CPU is running at 2.34GHz and the memory at 212MHz HTT. I used to have this same chip in a DFI 250GB mobo and similar ram running 1:1 and it ran way better but it was a better video card also.

The ram on this board for some reason is defaulting to 166MHz which it never did to me prior to this ram when I used another 2x 512MB double sided kit so I am not sure what's going on but I'll reflash with a different BIOS and see what happens.

Overall she can play her Sims games now and Zoo Tycoon 2 and whatever else but things are really jumpy. I'll have to go back to the Catalyst 5.9 and see what it does.

Re:Radeon 9600 XT with 8 pipes? - 2005/10/22 17:45 Just upgrade the video card to a GeForce 6600 GT or a GeForce 6800...

Re:Radeon 9600 XT with 8 pipes? - 2005/10/22 17:56 No, don't do that, the 9600XT is a good card still, It may not run everything on max with high FPS, but it will run everything out today. I used to have a 9600 Pro 4 months ago, and I loved that card, never was disapointed in it, even ran Far Cry at high, not Ultra high/
