Re:ASUS motherboard equals crap overclocking? - 2006/03/01 17:13 Hmm, I have an ASUS P4P800SE motherboard with a Prescott 3.0GHz at 3.72GHz at 1.5V (with Titan Vanessa S-Type cooler), 2x 256MB DDR400 Kingmax, KME PH-500W (EverPower) PSU, Gainward GeForce 6800 LE 128MB AGP at 445/700MHz and 1.5V (Zalman Fatal1ty). The Gainward has error with black screen if memory is higher then stock speed. So, I think that th ASUS board is okay for overclocking, in Everest I have almost identical score like P4 EE at 3733MHz... But I want to know one thing; my PSU have 25A on 12V, but my voltage is arround 11.55V... Why is that? Is this a problem? Motherboard or PSU?

Re:ASUS motherboard equals crap overclocking? - 2006/03/01 17:33 Maybe the PSU, because I had the same board, and I was at 12.06V. And on my A8V (same PSU), I'm at 11.65V. Motherboard will not have the same voltage, but you will need to try another PSU, or maybe its gonna be the board! Anyway, 11.55V isn't bad. Remember that the voltage maximum you should not go over, is about 5-10%...

I had a temporary board installed, a Gigabyte 8IPE1000 Pro2 and I can overclock my graphics card way more (like 450/1200MHz). Everything else in the PC is exactly the same, just the board was changed. If you are wondering why I replaced the board it was to RMA it...
Your Gigabyte motherboard, what socket it is? And at what speed is the CPU run at?

Re:ASUS motherboard equals crap overclocking? - 2006/03/02 13:16 It was the same as the ASUS P4P800, socket 478 and running a P4 3.0GHz. I was only using that Gigabyte motherboard while my ASUS P4P800 was at RMA. All the other parts of my PC was exactly the same. Since then, I've even upgraded my PSU from a 430W Thermaltake to a 480W Antec Neo and it's still been the same. I wasn't surprised since I've been unable to overclock this GeForce 6800 GT video card since the day I got it.

I've RMA'd my ASUS P4P800 Deluxe twice and each time they have given me a different board (different serial no.) and there has been no difference to the overclocking of my video card. Either I'm getting the rejects from the RMA offices or I've just been unlucky.

That is not an issue at all! The PSU voltage will always fluctuate and 11.55V is okay there is nothing wrong on that!

And say it has nothing todo with the mainboard at all... But will have to do with something else. But since you really want to blaim the ASUS board please do so, but it won't help you any further.

I ain't toasting ASUS, I like their products especially their motherboards. But doesn't it seem strange that the moment I change the motherboard I can overclock my video card? And then the moment I change it back I can't overclock it anymore. I'll be looking into a PCI Express system soon anyways. Anyone out there got a ASUS P4GD1 for sale?

Re:ASUS motherboard equals crap overclocking? - 2006/03/02 15:59 You should buy an A8N-E if you're not going to do SLI, with an AMD 3200+, it's running fine...

Re:ASUS motherboard equals crap overclocking? - 2006/03/02 16:00 The Radeon X800 XT PE consumes around 83W at full load...
