Radeon X800 SE and the plan... - 2005/08/17 03:41 Okay after reading a lot of threads in different forums about this question so forth but here my plan to flash and unlock the pipelines for the Sapphire X800 SE GDDR3 256-bit graphics card.

Diagnosis
1. No lasercut on the GPU
2. R420 GPU
3. 256MB DDR2 Memory
4. Voltage not too sure (I think the AGP is 0.8v)

Proposed Plan
1. Use ATITool to determine the max core/mem frequencies
2. Use RaBiT to alter existing max core/mem frequencies
3. Flash the BIOS to a X800 XT with those altered frequencies
4. Check with ATITool that it has been flashed correctly and monitor

This is just the generally outline of it. The only problems I have is that I am confused with voltage increasing (pencil mod?) and how to actually unlock the pipelines. By me flashing the X800 SE BIOS that should unlock the pipes right?!? Also apparently this can be done with RivaTuner but I cannot find enough information about this.

Also any recommendations on any good coolers would be awesome. I'm already thinking of heatsinks for the ram but I need a decent VGA cooler on it to get it to the core speeds of the the X800 XT. Can anyone point out any flaws that they might be able to see.

Re:Radeon X800 SE and the plan... - 2005/08/17 09:14 Well this procedure looks good but I would not immediatly carry it out just like that. Cause you want to go from a X800 SE to a X800 XT. As you might know or not the GPU's are more different then going from a X800 PRO to a X800 XT.

GPU Specifications
- X800 SE - 8 pipe/6 vertex units
- X800 GT - 8 pipe/6 vertex units
- X800 - 12 pipe/6 vertex units
- X800 PRO - 12 pipe/6 vertex units
- X800 XL - 16 pipe/6 vertex units
- X800 XT - 16 pipe/6 vertex units

So as you can see you want to go from 8 pipes to 16 pipes which would be doubling it... Without any testing of this with RivaTuner I wouldn't even dare to do that...

Re:Radeon X800 SE and the plan... - 2005/08/18 04:49 That's true. I really don't need to goto an X800 XT though. I'm happy to get it to work and stable at X800 PRO with 12 pipes. Unlocking 4 pipes (4 good pipes) would be great.

I have no illusions about getting it to 16 pipes unless a miracle happens and the video gods start to favour ATI overnight.

I'm getting a new cooler for the card anyways and when I do I'll post a shot of the GPU serials. Also if I provide a GPU BIOS dump can you tell me more about the card?

Yeps that would great to have, the images and the BIOS. Then I can check it a but. Also make sure to take a good shot of the memory chips as those are also important.

Re:Radeon X800 SE and the plan... - 2005/08/18 13:20 Well you may attach the ".bin" file on this thread or if you want you can just email it to me...

Re:Radeon X800 SE and the plan... - 2005/08/18 13:57 Alright just ran some core test and got up to about 506MHz on the core and I stopped it without artifacts. I haven't ran test on the memory yet. Here's the BIOS dump.

Edit...
I send it to you via email as it failed attaching...

I received it but can't check right now... As soon as I get home I will see what I can find out for you. Can you also provide how high the memory will go? And then combine both just to make sure. That way I have that feedback as well.

Re:Radeon X800 SE and the plan... - 2005/08/19 01:20 Thanks Mavke.

I will try with the memory but I don't want to do any testing on it until I get some heatsinks on it. But I'll see how it goes.

Kinda worried about the heat that it's generating at the moment. It's around about 50-51 degrees celsius while playing games. I put some thermal paste on there but the temp is high. Is this suppose to be right?

Re:Radeon X800 SE and the plan... - 2005/08/19 13:39 Well the 50-51°C is okay, it is not to much, does it have an active cooler or a passive? Cause I think the SE has passive, if you are worried change that with an active one, but normally temps may go up to around 60-70°C...
