Laser cut on PCI-E X800 Pro ViVo confirmed - 2005/06/04 22:55 Numerous flash attempts failed to enable last pipe quad on my Sapphire Radeon X800 Pro ViVo PCI-E. So I examined the core and found the laser cut. Did a pretty clean job on the hard mod but it didn't help. I think this may be one of those cores whose last 4 can't be enabled, but I'm not sure at this point.

No matter what X800 XT PE BIOS I use the card is seen as an X800 SE (even though it's currently running rock solid at 520/560MHz). Anyone know why that would be? I've pretty much tried every X800 XT PE PCI-E BIOS I can find, but it still comes up as an X800 SE???

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re:Laser cut on PCI-E X800 Pro ViVo confirmed - 2005/06/05 05:26 When you did the hard mod did you scrap away at the 2 dots to expose the copper? I know this had to be done on the AGP version that was not ViVo.

Re:Laser cut on PCI-E X800 Pro ViVo confirmed - 2005/06/05 15:35 Yes. I pretty much created a groove straight across from one end contact to the other. It looked pretty good, just a straight groove with copper all along the bottom. Should I have gone around the bridge with the conductive paint? I've seen both methods work (and not work).

Re:Laser cut on PCI-E X800 Pro ViVo confirmed - 2005/06/07 20:23 I was checking out some info on the X800 Pro/XT and see the PCI-E version use Samsung 2.0 while the XT PE uses 1.6 Samsung. Have you tried just using a X800 XT PCI-E bios?

Re:Laser cut on PCI-E X800 Pro ViVo confirmed - 2005/06/08 01:33 Yeah - tried that, too. I should try some more but I'm burnt out on that now. I wish I knew why the "x800 se" keeps coming up.

I'll post more when I get back into it again. Right now I'm playing with a 256mb evga 6200 pipes unlocked - flashed to sparkle 6600 bios and stable at 500/700 - it's fun to get so much bank out of $63 bucks.

Thanks!
