Re:Preparing to flash X850 PRO ViVo questions... - 2005/04/22 04:08 Hello,

Have a Sapphire X850 PRO ViVo and would like to flash to X850 XT to unlock last 4 pipelines, but I'm worried about the can't flash back warnings I've seen in the X800 PRO ViVo to X800 XT threads. Here's the plan..

1). Put ATIFlash (307) and Sapphire X850XT BIOS on boot disk
2). Backup current BIOS
3). Flash my card

I have a PCI card if I need to flash back. I'm pretty sure the X850 PRO ViVo comes with 1.6ns ram, it's default clocked at 520/1080MHz and I've been gaming all evening at 550/1100MHz.

I know there's no guarantee that the unlock will be successful or artifact free, but will I be able to go back? After all, the card's no sluch at 550/1100MHz, even with only 12 pipelines!

Thanks for your help!

Re:Preparing to flash X850 PRO ViVo questions... - 2005/04/22 19:39 Flash went ok but ATI Tray Tools still shows 12 pipelines. Uninstalled/Re-installed drivers (twice) but still shows 12 pipelines. I'm pretty sure the core recognized by ATI Tray Tools changed but I didn't write down what it was before the flash so I'm not positive.

I'm kind of confused at this point. It seems like I would either get corrupted unlocked pipes or a card that would not boot, but what appears to have happened is a good flash but no last quad pipe unlocking. Sinced I flashed to an X850 XT BIOS this does not make sense. Is it possible to flash a 16 pipe BIOS to as 12 pipe card and have everything run great afterwards? That part doesn't make sense.

Any ideas on where to go from here? Any way to tell for sure that the BIOS took? Should I try again, but use FlashROM?

Re:Preparing to flash X850 PRO ViVo questions... - 2005/04/23 11:57 Can you provide use your X850 PRO ViVo BIOS? So you have a Sapphire card correct?

Re:Preparing to flash X850 PRO ViVo questions... - 2005/04/23 13:05 Thanks for answering. Yes, it is a Sapphire card. Here is a link to original BIOS...
http://www.askthestars.com/sa850.bin

I noticed after the flash to the Sapphire X850 XT BIOS that my idle temps went from 42°C to 75°C! That's strange, have flashed back for now to original.

BTW, this is a PCI-Express card. Are they not unlockable?
Thanks for your help.

Re:Preparing to flash X850 PRO ViVo questions... - 2005/04/24 10:58 Well I think they are, but I think not much feedback has been provided on the PCI-E card so far. Well I know for sure that the NVIDIA GeForce 6800 PCI-E can't be unlocked as it is a different chip then with the AGP version. But on the ATI chips these are normally still the same chip... Unless I am mistaken. I will search around a bit!

Re:Preparing to flash X850 PRO ViVo questions... - 2005/06/17 19:43 Do some searching around and found this. Maybe it will shed some light on the matter for you.
X850 Pro --> X850 XT, questions...
