NMI Parity error - 2005/04/15 22:47 Way back in the early Detonator 2x.xx driver days there was a specific error with AMD based Tyan 762 (Thunder K7) mobo's and NVIDIA FX based GPU's. This error was addressed by Tyan in the BIOS, by AMD with updated chipset drivers, and also by NVIDIA with their drivers. The problem was fixed. At least it appeared to be fixed for the next few years. Until just a few months back. Every leaked driver as well as the official drivers after 71.24 have generated the nightmare NMI: Parity Error. I can actually uninstall the 76.50 leaked drivers right now and go back to the 71.24 drivers and the NMI: Parity Error will go away. This strongly points to my setup being configured correctly and healthy. It also points directly at the drivers. This error does not occur with DirectX applications, it only happens with OpenGL applications. Way back in the 2x.xx days, it was a DirectX as well as OpenGL issue.

Is there a way to insure that NVIDIA knows that this issue is back and needs to be addressed? I love my machine, it runs sweet, I should not have to run out and buy a new computer because NVIDIA video card drivers and Tyan mobos don't play well. This issue was resolved for 3 plus years, and suddenly its back. How can we insure that NVIDIA is addressing this? Do we know if anyone at NVIDIA visits this site?

Re:NMI Parity error - 2005/04/20 23:25 Well try to contact someone at NVIDIA or on their forums and address this issue. maybe their forums is a good base to start...

Re:NMI Parity error - 2005/04/25 08:42 Any news/feedback on this? Did you go to the NVIDIA forums and ask? I would like to see if this was really something that had to do with their drivers or not.

Re:NMI Parity error - 2005/04/25 16:18 As I said below:

all I have to do is leave 71.84 on my machine forever and I will not get this error anymore. however I have not yet tested the new official worl drivers that were just released. I think they were 71.89 ? I plan to test them to see if they work. but to answer your question I have no news about this yet. Oh, and btw, AMD and microsoft have a patch on each thier own web site that is susposed to help resolve this issue. what is does is make an entry in the registry called largepageminimun and sets it to the largest value it can hold. so that should be enough evidence that it is a GFX/AMD issue. the problem is that I checked my registry and the value is still there.

Re:NMI Parity error - 2005/04/25 16:24 Well that is why those are beta drivers... They can have issues. But the Official Drivers should not have those. So try the newest one, they should work well.

Re:NMI Parity error - 2005/04/26 07:43 I think some of you guys only respond to posts just to see your name on the site. What moron does not know they are beta and might have issues? I have been using betas for a good long while now, and I certainly have the common sense to know it could be a beta issue, but its not. Do your self a favor and at least know a little about what you are responding to if you are going to respond.

If I thought it was a beta issue I would never have posted, I would have waited till the next beta came out like the rest of the people with common sense do. Every single leak and beta that has contained OpenGL 2.0 has had this issue. It was solved 3 years ago, and now its returned, only it seems to be limited to OpenGL 2.0, not DirectX this go around.

Oh you really think so... Can I just tell you that this is my site together with Fury. So I think I can post whatever I want when I want. And for your info there are enough newbies that really don't know what what the difference is for leaked, beta, official drivers and what than can mean for their system getting errors. I don't post when it is not needed.

Re:NMI Parity error - 2005/04/26 08:45 Secondly I don't have this issue you mentioned with OpenGL 2.0... What does that make it then? That I am a moron? For not having the issue? I try almost every beta/official release so if you think I am just a moron then so be it.

Yeps as said you can go to the NVIDIA Forums and make sure it get's posted and you can be sure NVIDIA will pick it up...

How can we insure that NVIDIA is addressing this?
Same as above...

Do we know if anyone at NVIDIA visits this site?
Oh they are. And when they noticed something they don't want to see we get contacted by them, so they check the site maybe not every post or thread but they check regularly on the forums...

Well I have now just aswered your questions... But I still don't like your attitude. So somehow I hope your where just frustrated.

Re:NMI Parity error - 2005/04/26 19:41 Mavke, I did not notice that it was you that had made the post that I replied to. I would have responded differently if I had. I would have been frusted with your first reply none the less, however my very first post was directed at you of someo other admin, I was looking to get a response from someone who I know could answer my question. I have seen what I view quite a few people post what I thought were pointless posts that did not address the question, nor did they offer insight to the problem the user was seeking help on.

now, you said you are not having the problem I am having, do you have the MP760 shipset that I am having problems with ? I have no issues with other chipset the same as you, its just this one chipset that TYAN produced several years ago. you reply suggests that you are having sucess with the very same mobo I am trouble shooting. this was a well known issue that AMD, TYAN and NVIDIA struggled with and resolved in OGL and DX several years ago, and like I said, it looks like it is now back, but only for OGL 2.0, not Dx.

YOu did answer my questions though about ?NVIDIA visiting this sight, thanks for that, but I'm not sure if you understood that this NMI parity is specific to the TYAN mobo with the 760 chipset.
